Looking Forward To The End

For the secret of man's being is not only to live ... but to live for something definite. Without a firm notion of what he is living for, man will not accept life and will rather destroy himself than remain on earth....
Os Guinness. The Call: Finding and Fulfilling the Central Purpose of Your Life (Kindle Locations 33-35). Kindle Edition.
If you have your Bibles with you this morning, please turn to
This morning we want to explore what it means for us to live for something definite.
What it means to conform our lives with a firm and constant eye toward eternity with God.
Please turn with me in your Bibles to

He that has long been on the road to Heaven finds that there was good reason why it was promised that his shoes should be iron and brass, for the road is rough.

Hebrews 12:1–3 NIV
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured such opposition from sinners, so that you will not grow weary and lose heart.

Spiritual Legacy

I was this week reminded of a song that was one of my favorites when I was 15...
“The Road To Nowhere” by Ozzy Osbourne
Struck me that when I was listening to that song in 1991, I was listening with the sense that Ozzy was a middle aged male trying to find purpose.
Here are some of the lyrics...
I was looking back on my life And all the things I've done to me I'm still looking for the answers I'm still searching for the key The wreckage of my past keeps haunting me It just won't leave me alone I still find it all a mystery Could it be a dream? The Road To Nowhere leads to me
Listened to it this week and it dawned on me...
I’m now the same age that Ozzy was when he performed that song.
Struck me funny...
I’m wondering this morning how many of you this morning are still looking for the answers…still searching for the key.
Well, it’s my hope that if you haven’t already, you can TODAY begin a spiritual journey with Christ that leaves a legacy of answers, certainty, peace, and joy.

Family Legacy

Deuteronomy 6:1–3 NIV
These are the commands, decrees and laws the Lord your God directed me to teach you to observe in the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess, so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all his decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life. Hear, Israel, and be careful to obey so that it may go well with you and that you may increase greatly in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the Lord, the God of your ancestors, promised you.
My grandfather…the Bible. (Show them my Bible…Walk up and down the aisle).
This Bible, and the life that has been changed through it, is my grandfather’s legacy.
300 Quotations for Preachers Love God and Your Household

God is the first object of our love: Its next office is, to bear the defects of others. And we should begin the practice of this amidst our own household.
