Matthew 22:1–7 NASB95
1 Jesus spoke to them again in parables, saying, 2 “The kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who gave a wedding feast for his son. 3 “And he sent out his slaves to call those who had been invited to the wedding feast, and they were unwilling to come. 4 “Again he sent out other slaves saying, ‘Tell those who have been invited, “Behold, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and my fattened livestock are all butchered and everything is ready; come to the wedding feast.” ’ 5 “But they paid no attention and went their way, one to his own farm, another to his business, 6 and the rest seized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them. 7 “But the king was enraged, and he sent his armies and destroyed those murderers and set their city on fire.

Interpretation:
The kingdom of Heaven is God’s realm of salvation. The King is the God. The Son is Jesus. The Slaves are the Prophets in the NT (John the Baptist, Disciples). The Guests are the Jews who rejected the Messiah.
Two categories: Indifferent and the Infidels. Secularist who didn’t care and the religious who cared about the wrong things.
B. The Son is Jesus (2)
C. The Slaves are the Prophets (3)

why were they not worthy. Not because they were not moral enough. They were not worthy because they rejected the invitation. Whether they were indifferent or infidels, they rejected God’s invitation.
Good and bad — humanly speaking.

Some people think that they will get into the kingdom on their own terms with their own righteousness. Only the righteousness of Jesus Christ makes us worthy to enter the kingdom of heaven.

1. The invitation Rejected
Review:
The indifferent secularist Jew is is invited but in the end is destroyed and doesn’t make it to the kingdom.
The hostel religious Jew is invited but in the end is destroyed and doesn’t make it to the kingdom.
The morally good or bad gentile is invited but in the end is destroyed and doesn’t make it to the kingdom.
But,
Any secular Jew who accepts the invitation to salvation and by faith puts on the righteousness of Christ enters the kingdom — Matthew
Any hostel religious Jew who accepts the invitation to salvation and by faith puts on the righteousness of Christ enters the kingdom — Saul/Paul
The morally good gentile who accepts the invitation to salvation and by faith puts on the righteousness of Christ enters the kingdom — Cornelius
The morally bad gentile who accepts the invitation to salvation and by faith puts on the righteousness of Christ enters the kingdom — Philippian jailor
Have you accepted the invitation? Are you wearing the wedding garments?
