Scriptural Text:
Two Christian men lived near each other. The first was a farmer. Since there had not been any rain for several weeks, the farmer got up one morning and prayed for rain, but there was no rain that day.
His next-door neighbor was also up early, but he was praying that it would not rain, because he was taking an unsaved friend fishing that morning. There was no rain that day.
God hears both requests, but he can’t answer both. He will do that which glorifies him the most.
“What Prevent God From Hearing Our Prayers? “ is our sermon question.
() Cry out for the Lord’s help.
() Cry out for the Lord’s help.
Overcome by pain, the psalmist cried out desperately for the Lord’s help. He poured out his complaint before the Lord, describing his suffering at length and relating how it had affected his life.
Ask Him to hear and to accept your prayer (vv. 1-2).
Ask Him to hear and to accept your prayer (vv. 1-2).
Feeling that God was oblivious to his suffering and not paying attention to his repeated requests, the ailing psalmist asked the Lord to hear and to accept his prayer (v. 1).
He pleaded with God not to ignore his distress (v. 2). His pain was slowly strangling the life out of him, so he called on God not to hide His face from him in his trouble any longer. Desperate for help, he begged God to listen and to answer him quickly by giving him relief.
b. Describe your anguish to Him (vv. 3-11).
God is not deaf to our prayer, one may think. In a figurative way the term “deaf” is saying that God does not always respond to requests as people might hope. Please note how answers come:
only after long delays
may come in an unrecognized form
or in a manner you would not have wanted
