Aristotle - We are What We Repeatedly Do

We Form Habits and Our Habits Form us

Most people have Up-Hill Hopes and Down Hill Habits.

Romans 12:2 The Message
2 Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Week 1 - Focus on First Things

Week 2 - Control Our Thoughts

Habit #3: KEEP MY LIFE ALIGNED WITH MY PURPOSE.

Because I have a PURPOSE.

Psalm 139:16 NIV84
16 your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
Ephesians 2:10 NIV84
10 For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

We need to Live by Design, not by Default

Because there is a competition for my time and attention.

An Overwhelmed schedule will often produce an underwhelmed soul

Ecclesiastes 4:6 TEV
6 Perhaps so, but it is better to have only a little, with peace of mind, than to be busy all the time with both hands, trying to catch the wind.

Because Time is Short.

James 4:13–15 NIV84
13 Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” 14 Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.”

PUTTING THE HABIT TO WORK

1. Decide what is IMPORTANT.

Philippians 3:7–8 NIV84
7 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ

2. Give CALENDAR TIME to the important things.

Psalm 90:12 The Living Bible
12 Teach us to number our days and recognize how few they are; help us to spend them as we should.

Rule of 5

Spend time in prayer. Study God’s Word. Love those Closest to me. Make a difference in someone’s life. Take Care of Myself.

Make time for RENEWAL.

2 Corinthians 4:16 NIV84
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

Make time for RELATIONSHIPS.

Make time for REWARD.

Ecclesiastes 1:14 NIV84
14 I have seen all the things that are done under the sun; all of them are meaningless, a chasing after the wind.

3. Eliminate the NON-ESSENTIALS.

Hebrews 12:1 NIV84
1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

4. Regularly TAKE INVENTORY.

Psalm 39:4–5 NLT
4 Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered— how fleeting my life is. 5 You have made my life no longer than the width of my hand. My entire lifetime is just a moment to you; at best, each of us is but a breath.” Interlude
