Our Enemy
Our Enemy
First truths we come to lean is that we have an actual enemy. A villan of all humanity. I being of incredible evil and hatred. A spiritual Being called Stan that we unknowligly all served before we were led out of bondage.
And its not very long before you come to realise that he is not happy with your betrayal and wants you back in his pits of sinful bondage.
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
But we are also not left to face this for on our own, we have been given the armour of God and the sword of the Spirit. We have the blood of the lamb and the power of the Holy Spirit.
We also have a first hand account of our how captan and chief faced this same enemy and defeated him in the wilderness.
Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
# times in those 40 days Satan assaulted Jesus in his weakened and hungry state in an attempt to get Jesus to bow ghis knee to the Devil and serve Him.
Notice each of our Lords replies to each of these attacks:
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.
Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;
3 attacks, each targeting a different area of weakness:
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
In each attack Jesus gives , in essence, the same response:
No Satan, I will not serve you.
Lets look at these 3 are’s of attack and equip ourselves to battle:
1: No Satan, I will not serve you with My Money
1: No Satan, I will not serve you with My Money
“Lust of the Eyes”
Materialism is rampant. Even in the church.
70’s rise of prosperity and Word of faith produced a warped understanding of God and Blessings.
Material wealth is not seen as blessing.
“Merc - blessed beyond measure” take away money and will you still feel the same way?
For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
There is the key word: Coveting. Coveting is a form of idolatry: When the object of our worship, devotion and affection is material things they become our God.
No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Millions of people send their lives and sacrifice their families on mammon’s alter. Missed birthdays and anniversaries, all adding up to get edge out the competition and secure that next big promotion so that can afford to buy the next big house with the big car.... only to one day wake up, at 55, divorced, kids in another country, alone and empty.
To bad many do not listen to Jesus:
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
What is the Solution?
To practice Contentment and generosity:
Contentment is simple a thankfulness for ones present possessions and generosity, to the poor and the kingdom wrestles Satan’s greedy hands off your finances and places them in God’s to do as God commended.
But godliness with contentment is great gain.
For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.

For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
No Satan, I will not serve you with my body!
No Satan, I will not serve you with my body!
“The lust of the flesh”
This is a fight against lusts of flesh which primarily manifest themeslef in ungodly sexual appetites or temptations.
A list of biblical sexual sins are:
Adulrty, Fornication, homosexuality, incest, rape, pediophilia, beastiality and necrophilia.
Lets make this clear:
Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality,
For this ye know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
The issue that is at stake here is that as a christian your body no longer belongs to you. Any acts of sexual immorality is an act of robbery and treason against God.
Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
His own body and note:
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
Sexual sins is a destroyer of marriages, families, and a perversion of God’s gift to marriage couples. It spreads desease and results in the contribution to humanities greatest shame, the holocaust of billions of innocent children in abortion clinics around the world.
What is the Solution?
I believe the solution to sexual temptation is not resisting on its own, rather it yielding to God.
Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.
Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.
Dedicating your body and your appetites daily over to the purposes of God and not putting yourself in a position of temptation, along with a good dose of self control will get you very far in life.
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour;
Not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God:
3: No Satan, I will not serve you with my heart.
3: No Satan, I will not serve you with my heart.
“The pride of life”
Hollywood and the liberal agenda would have you believe that beating in your chest is a good, moral heart, that its trustworthy, logical and kind, that if you will just believe in yourself and follow your hrat all your dreams will come true.
The reality is far different. Our hearts, far from being good and pure and trustworthy, are wicked, deceiving and full of evil intentions:
The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?
For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
What makes the human heart o deceiving and evil? Because it is full of pride.
Pride, the alpha sin that cause an angel to rebel against God and be cast out of heaven.
Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: Though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished.
The fear of the Lord is to hate evil: Pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, And the froward mouth, do I hate.
For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight.
Pride, and its opposite humility are the most difficult of attribes. For one they are impossible to self diagnose.
The man who says he is humble has just made a proud examination.
Pride will make us do foolish things. It will make us refuse advice, resist confession, argue instead of apologise. It will rather have us slit you own throat than admit or show “weakness”, yet prise is humanities greatest weakness itself.
I have learned the sound of pride in my years as a pastor:
Its not me, it him, its not me, its her.
Prise will cause us to jump as shadows, su
I will when, they will....
Dont tell me what to do...
Just who do they think they are....
Ive got nothing to apologise for...
This is all your fault....
You started this....
It was the woman you gave me...
The serpent deceived me....
Pride is nothing less than a God complex - where you are the all knowing, all wise, all understanding God - and everyone else is the ignorant, foolish and stupid philistines.
Whats the solution?
Simple: Have an attitude adjustment - listen to me know everyone of God’s children:
You better have an attitude adjustment soon, because as your heavenly father, God is obligated by his own command to adjust your attitude for you if you dont do it yourself.
And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted.
Mark the date: 4 Feburay 2018 - This is the day to humble yourself.
How do we adjust our attitude in humility?
For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
Take yourself off the pedestal you put yourself on. You are not special.
People are allowed to disagree with you, they are allowed to ignore you, they are allowed to offend you. Its always amazing: “So and so offended me, im leaving that church, all 100 of those people dont deserve to be in the presence of an angel like me....!”
For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
Summarises: Learn to give people the benefit of the doubt. Listen long before you answer. Take some time and try to empathise with the other person.
And most importantly:
Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
And most impostantly:
No Satan, I will not serve you!
No Satan, I will not serve you!
