1 Vision The Sound 2018: of Pentecost Forward Acts 2:1-4 Introduction: 2 I. Let’s take a Journey The Genesis Affirmation that the Holy Spirit was in the beginning, He has always been: Genesis 1:1In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. NKJV The Need We are all sinners who need a Savior, needing the conviction ministered by the Holy Spirit: Psalm 51:10Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. NKJV 3 The Prophetic Foretold. Pre-vision. Joel 2:28And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. 29And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. NKJV The Silence Genesis 50 ends the book of beginnings with the funeral of Joseph buried in Egypt and Malachi 4:6 ends the Old Covenant with the threat of a curse. Then there are 400 years of silence, nothing from Jehovah, Yahweh, God. 4 The Pronouncement The next time the voice of God is heard is the Angel Gabriel speaking with Mary about her being the chosen vessel of God to bring forth Messiah, the Christ-child prophesied from Genesis 3:15, foretold by the Prophet Isaiah 700 years before. The Virgin Mary was to bring forth a Son calling Him Immanuel, God with us - His Name is called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. He is the One who is Messiah, Savior, Healer, Protector - Baptizer of the Holy Spirit & Fire. He is the One whom John would say, "John 3:30He (Jesus, the Baptizer) must increase, but I (John) must 31 decrease. He who comes from above is above all." NKJV Again John would speak of Christ as recorded by Matthew, "Matthew 3:11I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” NKJV 5 The Promise Jesus said, "John 16:7Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. KJV" Again Jesus told those listening to go & tarry in Jerusalem waiting for the Promise. Then He said, "Acts 1:8But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you. NKJV" 6 Acts 2:1-4 (BIBLE) II. What to Expect Remember the application: 7 A. Sound a. Suddenly – without warning – Sound fills the entire house! …a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm. NLT …a sound from the sky like the roar of a violent wind CJB b. Unaware – Unexpectedly –– The unexpected should be the expected in 2018, the norm, not paranormal. B. Eye Witness a. Today, it should be as in the Upper Room that each person is an eye witness to the manifest presence of the LORD! Not only did they “hear” – They saw! b. They witnessed with wide-open eyes something remarkable, unprecedented. Oh, do it again LORD! He is ready to do a “New thing.” 8 C. Inspired to Voice their Worship a. Those present are Inspired by the Holy Spirit to voice their Worship and adoration of King Jesus! Everyone. All present began to speak with other tongues, including Mary & the brothers of Jesus! b. Grant it today LORD in our midst – Everyone expressing adoration to You, the Most High God. D. Unbelievers are Drawn a. Unbelievers are drawn to the saving knowledge of Christ when the church hears something, sees something, and says something!!! b. What happened as recorded in Acts 2? Those who were in the streets witnessing the power of God cried out, “What must we do to be saved!” 9 III. Prayer A. It all began with prayer. Acts 1:14 a. Acts 1:14These all continued with one accord in prayer and supplication,[b] with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and with His brothers. NKJV b. B. The reason we can do this is because of the resurrection of Christ. - He asks us to: * Repent * Live by Faith * Be Baptized * Be Filled with His Spirit Conclusion: PRESENT THE GOSPEL FOR SALVATION – EVERY WEEK – AND THE NEED TO COME FORWARD IN PUBLIC ACCEPTANCE OF CHRIST
