God is Holy...

When Scripture calls God, or individual persons of the Godhead, “holy” (as it often does: ; ; ; ; ; ; , , ; ; ; ; ; , ; ), the word signifies everything about God that sets him apart from us and makes him an object of awe, adoration, and dread to us. It covers all aspects of his transcendent greatness and moral perfection and thus is an attribute of all his attributes, pointing to the “Godness” of God at every point. Every facet of God’s nature and every aspect of his character may properly be spoken of as holy, just because it is his. The core of the concept, however, is God’s purity, which cannot tolerate any form of sin () and thus calls sinners to constant self-abasement in his presence ().
God’s holiness means that he is separated from sin and devoted to seeking his own honor. This definition contains both a relational quality (separation from) and a moral quality (the separation is from sin or evil, and the devotion is to the good of God’s own honor or glory). The idea of holiness as including both separation from evil and devotion to God’s own glory is found in a number of passages.
God’s holiness is the very antithesis of all moral blemish or defilement. What did God appoint singers for? ______________________________________ . Power is God’s hand or arm, omniscience His eye, mercy His bowels (depths/core), eternity His duration, but holiness is His beauty.
Holiness is the most sparkling jewel of His crown. What’s His Name ()? ___________________________________
God is fundamentally holy. His very being is made up of holiness. It’s like the light being of the essence of the sun. Even in thinking about God’s Word. The Scriptures bears the stamp of His holiness on it, as the wax bears an impression of the seal. What’s said about God’s Word?
;
Psalm 119:1
God is also holy in all His operations. All God does is holy, He cannot but act like Himself. He can no more sin or tolerate unrighteousness, than the sun can darken (Psalm 145:17)
Are you holy? What is the cause of anything or anybody that’s holy? ()___________________________________
Grudem, W. A. (2004). Systematic theology: an introduction to biblical doctrine (p. 201). Leicester, England; Grand Rapids, MI: Inter-Varsity Press; Zondervan Pub. House.
Any holiness that we have is but a crystal stream from this fountain. Any holiness that we have, we’ve borrowed (received) from God!
Here’s a no brainer: The holiness in God is far above the holiness in saints or angels. What does declare: _______________________________________?
God’s holiness provides the pattern for His people to imitate.
So what’s He command them in ? ___________________(cf. 11:44–45; 20:26; ).
When God called His people out of Egypt and brought them to Himself and commanded them to obey His voice, then what did He tell them that they will be? () _________________________________________________________. In this case the idea of separation from evil and sin (which here included in a very striking way separation from life in Egypt) and the idea of devotion to God (in serving Him and in obeying His statutes) are both seen in the example of a “holy nation.”
New covenant believers are also to pursue what? () _____________________________________________________________________Why does God discipline us?_______________________________________ ().
What does Paul encourages Christians to be in ? _____________________________________________________
And then encourages them to do what in ; cf. :1________________________________________________________________ The church itself is intended by God to grow into a what? () _____________________________________________________________________And what is Christ’s present work in the church? () ____________________________________________________________________Not only individuals but also the church itself must grow in holiness!
