Scripture

Deuteronomy 2:1–7 NASB95
1 “Then we turned and set out for the wilderness by the way to the Red Sea, as the Lord spoke to me, and circled Mount Seir for many days. 2 “And the Lord spoke to me, saying, 3 ‘You have circled this mountain long enough. Now turn north, 4 and command the people, saying, “You will pass through the territory of your brothers the sons of Esau who live in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. So be very careful; 5 do not provoke them, for I will not give you any of their land, even as little as a footstep because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession. 6 “You shall buy food from them with money so that you may eat, and you shall also purchase water from them with money so that you may drink. 7 “For the Lord your God has blessed you in all that you have done; He has known your wanderings through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you; you have not lacked a thing.” ’
Deuteronomy 2:1–8 NKJV
1 “Then we turned and journeyed into the wilderness of the Way of the Red Sea, as the Lord spoke to me, and we skirted Mount Seir for many days. 2 “And the Lord spoke to me, saying: 3 ‘You have skirted this mountain long enough; turn northward. 4 And command the people, saying, “You are about to pass through the territory of your brethren, the descendants of Esau, who live in Seir; and they will be afraid of you. Therefore watch yourselves carefully. 5 Do not meddle with them, for I will not give you any of their land, no, not so much as one footstep, because I have given Mount Seir to Esau as a possession. 6 You shall buy food from them with money, that you may eat; and you shall also buy water from them with money, that you may drink. 7 “For the Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hand. He knows your trudging through this great wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.” ’ 8 “And when we passed beyond our brethren, the descendants of Esau who dwell in Seir, away from the road of the plain, away from Elath and Ezion Geber, we turned and passed by way of the Wilderness of Moab.
Deuteronomy 2:3 NASB95
3 ‘You have circled this mountain long enough. Now turn north,
What is it in my life that I keep circling that has nothing to do with where God is trying to take me?
What keeps me circling? (Solar system illustration)
Comfort & Familiarity
Stability
Be careful of circling because it gives the illusion of progress, but you haven’t gone anywhere.
I don;t know what your mountain is: Your mountain can be
Sin that you just keep on circling.

This is not the first time God has told them this. God told them that it was time to possess the Promised Land 39 years ago, but because they didn’t trust God 39 years ago, they spent 40 years in the wilderness. For some of us that can represent 40 years of life. Could you imagine what it would like for God to have done something years ago, but because you didn’t trust God you missed out on the opportunity?
You have to think about what opportunities have I missed simply because I didnt trust God enough?
When you answer that question, you don;t have to lose hope because even when we are not faithful, God is faithful. Even when you didn’t trust God before God will give you the opportunity to trust him again.
Now there is a caution here: There are many things that God will give us second chances with in our lifetime. However, there are some opportunities that if you are not careful, God will give another chance, but you may not be alive to see it. The generation that is getting ready to walk into the Promised Land is not the generation that came out of Egypt. The generation 20 years and older that came out of Egypt, who should have trusted God the most because they saw firsthand of what he did for them in Egypt and was old enough to understand it, did not trust God when he said go and possess the land. So God had to allow all of them to die off.
Whether its your system in your relationships , in your friendships, in your walk with God, in the church, in your business or on your job, as an athlete or a student, your system is perfectly designed to produce the results you are getting.
