Intro

Illustration ideas: JFK seeing his dad commit adultery and now Marilyn.
How can I make this stick?
Maybe show, not tell, and not tell the name

Body

is one of the only chapters in Proverbs with some context instead of independent wisdom clauses
Proverbs 5:15 ESV
Drink water from your own cistern, flowing water from your own well.
Wells are not common, and almost nobody knows what a cistern is
I had to look it up!
Practical application?
Don’t drink from someone else’s fridge, don’t accept a drink from someone you don’t know, or go build a well and drink from that instead of your tap water.
Earlier in the Proverb, adultery is addressed as similar to smooth oil or honey, enticing you by its forbidden fruit
Now, drinking from what is yours is godliness
It’s problematic that there are fast food joints on every corner after a long days work, yet there is a fridge full of food at home.
Strategic entrapments at every corner know what you want and present an offer of all-delight and little cost.
Yet we are commanded to drink!
Proverbs 5:15 ESV
Drink water from your own cistern, flowing water from your own well.
Drinking from what is yours is faithful, content, obedient, and the life of peace. Godliness paraphrased.
Passage addresses faithful to spouse
Much more than that
One cannot be content without faithfulness, nor faithful without contentment
You are what you eat, or you are what you drink.
Many options to go to, but God’s Word says the greatest blessings are right in front of you.
Christ Jesus has forgiven us of all sins so that we can enjoy the blessings He’s put right in front of us that are ours.
By Spirit’s Power, drink what is yours, and resist anything else that isn’t!
Practical:
This is nothing against soda, or drinking out of your neighbors glass when they aren’t looking, but what is yours.
What do you have in life? A wife or husband? A job? A family? Friends?
Are you abandoning what you should be investing in, or pursuing what you shouldn’t?
See the abundant wells in front of you
Stop yourself from continuing further to another location
Drink in richly what God has blessed in front of you instead of rejecting Him
Main Ideas:
Drinking from what is yours receives a blessings for faithfulness.
Those who faithfully drink from what is theirs are blessed.
Imperatives:
Faithfully drink
Keep your taste buds, eyes, and hands on what’s yours
Ideas:
What situations are you expectedly finding yourself in that will change your contentment or faithfulness? AVOID
What about the crow and the fox thing, getting the grape?
What’s the core? Drinking up from what is yours is drinking up God’s blessings
