Why do ships have anchors? Well, you put an anchor out to stay where you are or if you are in a storm the anchor goes out so that the ship does not get blown into the shoreline or off course. Ships put out anchors to prevent from drifting, a ship will even do this in calm waters to prevent drifting. It does not matter if you are in a storm or in the calm of your life we need an anchor for our soul. These verses are a strong encouragement for us in that we need to hope not in hope but in Christ and all that is promised in him, and very specifically we hope in the promise of our salvation provided by Christ. So in the storms of our life and I the clams of our life we lay hold of our hope of salvation knowing it is the anchor for our soul.
