Ge 25:29-34. Dan Kroon. Just like lust, gluttony is when self-indulgence trumps self-control. When sensual desire trumps spiritual needs. When immediate gratification trumps long-term health. When immoderate cravings trump good judgment. It’s not just about food and it’s not just about excess. It’s about appetite – insatiable appetite. It’s about food and drink and many other things as well. And again, it’s about idolatry – when the stomach or the senses or the cravings become our god. Esau serves as an example, not of a typical glutton, but of a man who lets appetite and desire trump the more important things.
