1. Consequences of Sin

A. Depravity- Man’s nee of original righteousness and of holy affections toward God, and the corruption of his moral nature and bias toward evil.
B. What is doesn’t mean:
1. Man is as bad as he can be.
2. That man is as opposed to God as he could be
a. (AV)
14 For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:
b. (AV)
13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived.
C. What it does mean:
1. Every sinner is totally destitute of that love to God which is the chief requirement of the Law. (AV)
37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.
2. Prefers what self desires more than what God desires. (AV)
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, 3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good, 4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
3. My understanding of God is corrupted. (AV)
18 Having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart:
D. Depravity has infected the whole man-mind, emotions, will.
E. What can I do about depravity? I cannot change my character and life so as to make them conformable to the law of God, nor change my fundamental preference of self and sin to supreme love for God.
F. Total depravity, then means “total inability to achieve or obtain the solution to our sin by ourselves,” not “total inability to accept if from God.”
1. Does not mean total inability to understand or respond to God’s message.
2. Man can not fix himself but with God’s grace he can be saved.

2. Consequences of sin

Guilt- and objective result of sin, for every sin, of whatever nature, is an offense against God and subject to His wrath.

3. Consequence of sin

A. Penalty-that pain or loss which is directly inflicted by a lawgiver in vindication of his justice, which has been outraged by the violation of law.
B. Penalty is not intended to bring about reformation.
1. Discipline is rooted in love for the purpose of correction (AV)
6 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
2. (AV)
6 Sufficient to such a man is this punishment, which was inflicted of many. 7 So that contrariwise ye ought rather to forgive him, and comfort him, lest perhaps such a one should be swallowed up with overmuch sorrow. 8 Wherefore I beseech you that ye would confirm your love toward him.
C. Death-3 fold
1. Physical-separation of Body/soul (AV)
17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
2. Spiritual-separation of soul from God (AV)
1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
(AV)
5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
3. Eternal-eternal separation of soul from God.
a. (AV)
9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
b. (AV)
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
