(7)Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is born of God and knows God.
NLT
(8) But anyone who does not love does not know God—for God is love.
“He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins”
I. Introduction
A. Definition
GRACE Undeserved acceptance and love received from another. Refers to an undeserved favor granted by a superior to an inferior. It refers to the undeserved favor of God in providing salvation for those deserving condemnation. In the more specific Christian sense, it speaks of the saving activity of God, which is manifested in the gift of His Son to die in the place of sinners.[1]
i. Grace: Unmerited favor of God toward the man. It is undeserved on the part of the recipient. It is unearned and unearnable
ii. In the old testament Grace translated from the Hebrew word hen
iii. In the New Testament, it is the Greek word Charis.
iv. In both cases the term occurs in the phrase favor “In the Eyes of the lord”, something good that you received but you don’t deserve.
B. Grace is Gift
To understand the Grace from God, we need to understand:
i. Roman 3:23 NLT
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard”
ii. Roman 6:23 NLT
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord
iii. For Grace of God, a received the Salvation
Ephesian 2:8 NLT
God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.
1. Not by Our Actions, there is nothing we can do to earn his Grace
C. Our Response to His Grace
i. With Faith, Believing in Jesus as the only way to God.
NLT, “Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of undeserved privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God’s glory”
ii. Our provisions of a Christian life are based on his grace
1. Answer to our prayers ( )
2. Grace in our sufferings ()
3. Provide our needs
4. Provide Healing
5. Restore us
6. Rescue us from sin
II. The Nature of the Grace
A. Flows from the Nature of God
i. Gracious is Law Giving
ii. Gracious Towards Sin Patience
iii. Gracious Toward Sin Forgiveness
1. He Purchase Our Freedom with the Blood of his Son
a. He redeemed us of our sins
b. He Allow us to be called his children
c. He awakens us from Spiritual death
d. He set us free from the oppression
e. More important, he provides us eternal life
B. Grace is Free
i. But there was a very high price paid. The Blood of Jesus
ii. But cannot no be obtained with our own merits. God chose us first.
C. Grace is unmerited
i. For our sins, we deserve death. But instead God brings life to us
ii. We are justified with his Grace.
III. God’s Action of Grace
God the Father provides the gift of grace, God the Son delivers the gift and God the Spirit maintains the gift of Grace.
A. The Father Acts
NLT;
“So the Lord must wait for you to come to him So he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. “ Blessed are those who wait for his help.
i. God waits for us to come to him (He is Patience)
ii. God Shows his love and Compassion
iii. God is a Faithfull God. God will never fail us
B. Jesus is the Maximum Expression of God’s Grace ()
i. He is Our Redeemer
ii. We are justified by Him freely
iii. He never sinned, but carried out all humanity sins into the cross
C. The Holly Spirit acts
i. Is the Only Efficient Agent in the application of redemption ( )
ii. His Roles is to make us one with Christ ( )
iii. Regenerates or the new birth is his work ( )
iv. Repentance and Faith are gift of the Holy Spirit ( )
v. Gives the assurance of salvation ( )
vi. Is indispensable in the perseverance and preservation of the faith
IV. Conclusion
A. GRACE is the way God shows favor and kindness to us in spite of our deserving the opposite. We do not in any way deserve it, but He still offers it freely as a gift. A high price paid by Jesus in the cross by his grace so we do not perish.
NLT "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
B. GRACE bring us closer to God by his Holly Spirit making us one in Christ, assuring our salvation and regenerating the new birth of our spirit to be the one who controls our flesh.
