Redemption
Redemption
For the entire fullness of God’s nature dwells bodily in Christ, and you have been filled by Him, who is the head over every ruler and authority. You were also circumcised in Him with a circumcision not done with hands, by putting off the body of flesh, in the circumcision of the Messiah. Having been buried with Him in baptism, you were also raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. And when you were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, He made you alive with Him and forgave us all our trespasses. He erased the certificate of debt, with its obligations, that was against us and opposed to us, and has taken it out of the way by nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and disgraced them publicly; He triumphed over them by Him.
God v9
God v9
He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For everything was created by Him, in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities— all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and by Him all things hold together. He is also the head of the body, the church; He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He might come to have first place in everything. For God was pleased to have all His fullness dwell in Him, and through Him to reconcile everything to Himself by making peace through the blood of His cross — whether things on earth or things in heaven.
1 colossians 1:15-20
All of His work is only possible because of who He is. Only God could do this.
In Us v10-13
In Us v10-13
Changed our hearts. Just as sin starts with the heart and leads to consequences, God’s work starts in the heart then applies qualitative change and changes the consequences.
Circumcision- ; ; ;
Baptism - ; Step of faith, part of response.
Once God has applied the new covenant sign to your heart, the circumcision of Christ, we are called to respond in faith, baptism/church membership.
For Us v14-15
For Us v14-15
Jesus dealt with the consequences of our rebellion, our adultery from intimacy with Him. He shamed the shamers. Satan’s work in the garden resulted in Adam and Eve’s shame, they had to hide and were cast out. Jesus work on the cross declared no more shame for us, no more condemnation, while at the same time bringing shame to the spiritual forces we are in opposition to.
How?
How?
Love.
keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that lay before Him endured a cross and despised the shame and has sat down at the right hand of God’s throne.
He considered it His joy to suffer on our behalf. He wasn’t happy about suffering, in fact in the garden He asked the Father if there was any other way, but He endured the pain and suffering with joy considering what the result would be.
John 3:16
“For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.
God the trinity loved us so much He planned and carried out His will to restore us to Him.
