General Idea
We come to a climactic. In the life of Elijah and in the history of Israel.
1. The challenge of the Baal Prophets
2. Elijah's faith in God and God's revelation of himself in fire from heaven
3. Jezebel's fury threat to destroy Elijah
4. Elijah subsequent flight to the wilderness
But in the midst of this flurry of events, we read one of the most intriguing portions of scripture and one that is very familiar.
And after the earthquake a fire; but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.
* Elijah had witnessed God's power on a miraculous scale
* Elijah was at the end of a 40-day fast
* Elijah was running in fear of Jezebel
Questions we need to ask:
Had God revealed himself previously in an earthquake or a fire?
What is meant by the phrase " but God was not in...... The earthquake....the fire
Observations
The Still Small Voice was at the end of Elijah's Ministry..... Is this an indication of how God intended to communicate in the future?
Although it was a prophet although he was greatly used of God he was still just a man -
Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
There are times when God moves and it is undeniable to us and to others around us. We only need to consider Elijah at Kerith, Elijah at Zarephath, Elijah at Mount Carmel.

Many of us could .2 instances in our own life maybe not quite as spectacular and in such a manner but in reality they are for the most part few and far between. What is more common and more needful is for us to become familiar with the still small voice of the Holy Spirit of God. It really is one of the most amazing aspects and benefits of the Christian Life
Additional questions:
Why do we need the still small voice?
What is meant by still and small?
How do we get ourselves to the place where we can hear it?
How do we know it is God?
What are hindrances in hearing the voice of God?
