“You will make mistakes - learn from them.” This is true, what is far better however is to learn from the mistakes other have already made and avoid them altogether.
“Those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat its mistakes.”
Through scripture God intentionally points out the mistakes his people made in the past so that His people in the present will avoid making the same ones.

ISRAEL TEACHES US FROM THE WILDERNESS WANDERINGS.

1 Corinthians 10:1 ESV
For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea,
1 Corinthians 10:1–2 ESV
For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea,
1 Corinthians 10:1–4 ESV
For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ.
1 Corinthians
The Israelites in the Wilderness: were delivered from slavery, were being guided to the promise land that God was preparing for them and being provided for supernaturally along the way. They were:
Were under the cloud that God guided them by. ()
Passed through the sea when God delivered them. ()
Were baptized into Moses through the cloud and sea. (Verse 2)
Ate the same supernatural food and drink. (, , )
Were delivered by and provided for by Christ (Verse 4)
Christians in the wilderness of life are delivered from the slavery to sin, given the gift of the promise land: heaven, being guided and provided for along the way physically and spiritually by the power of Jesus Christ through the Spirit.
1 Corinthians 10:
But for Israel GOD WAS NOT PLEASED WITH MOST OF THEM. THEY ARE AN EXAMPLE FOR US SO THAT WE WILL NOT DO LIKE THEY DID. Notice Vv 5-6
1 Corinthians 10:5–6 ESV
Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did.
Just to get an understanding of this verse we need to not miss that God was not pleased with MOST of them. How many? How many made it into Canaan?
Just 2 out of millions. We know that God not displeased with Moses but this says a lot about important faithfulness is to God.
How many made it into the promised land?
What did they do that caused God to be displeased with them?
Let’s remember that these things God is bringing up so that we can learn what not to do. God even had them written down for our instruction.
1 Corinthians 10:11 ESV
Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.
1 Corinthians 10:

ISRAEL TEACHES US WHAT NOT TO DO AS GOD’S PEOPLE.

1 Corinthians 10:5–6 ESV
Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did.
1 Corinthians 10:7–10 ESV
Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer.
1 Corinthians 10:5-6
1 Corinthians 10:
Do not be idolators (V7) ()
Do not “indulge in sexual immorality” (V8) ()
Do not test the the Lord (V9) ()
Do not be discontent complainers (V10) (

GOD TELLS US HOW CAN WE AVOID MAKING THE SAME MISTAKES:

1 Corinthians 10:12–14 ESV
Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
1 Corinthians
Be careful that you do not fall. (V12)
Trust that you can overcome temptation with God’s help (V13)
Look for God’s way out of temptation (V13)
Flee from idolatry (V14)
WE HAVE BEEN GIVEN A BETTER COVENANT WITH BETTER PROMISES THAN Israel. Let us not make the same mistakes they made by not realizing this.
LET US LEAVE A BETTER LEGACY TO THE NEXT GENERATION. ONE OF OBEDIENCE, PURITY, FAITH AND TRUST IN GOD.
