What have we learned so far?

Paul is writing to the church at Colossae. He is thankful for the church and the faith that they have. Paul is also praying for the church that they will be filled with knowledge and understanding, so they can walk worthy of the lord. He is also showing them in this introduction what they have in Christ. He finishes this section of scripture with an accurate description of what the Work of Christ does for them, and what it does for us today. Read 1:13-14 Again.

Paul has a great conversion story. Its one where Christ himself showed up and turned his world upside down. I want us to read about his conversion in . Paul was sent to tell the people of how they could be delivered from power and satan, and be forgiven. WE MUST BE CHANGED OURSELVES BEFORE WE CAN TRUELY TELL SOMEONE WHAT ITS LIKE TO BE SAVED.

What does his son deliver us from? Sin, and darkness. This word deliver in the original language also means to rescue. For the believer Christ is rescuing us from darkness and placing us into his life. God has been rescuing his people since the beginning. Look at . Think about it in todays context. Christ does this for us. We do not only need to be delivered from physical aspect, but also from a spiritual one.

Let us turn to . Christ delivers us from our past life of sin. Our old life was filled with passions of the flesh and desires, not of just our body, but also our mind. The world that we are called out of is the world we use to live in. How are we called to live once we have been called from the domain of darkness? Someone Read . Not only does God deliver us from Sin and death, but he calls us to the light, and transforms our lives now. The church of Colossie had a problem understanding this, and sometimes we do to. Which is something that lies ahead of all believers, and its something that is already an inward reality. . Those whom he justified he also glorified. . He will bring it to completion at the day of Christ Jesus.

We see at the end of verse 13 it says of his beloved son. This is the same type of language we see at the baptism of Jesus. In literal translation in greek is the son of the love of his. Paul could be alluding to 2 Samual 7:12-16 which mentions God’s eternal love for him.

Questions on the kingdom of God?

Finally verse 14, it tells us in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. Scripture tells us that Christ died as a ransom for us. , For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. , And we are justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.

In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

So many of your bibles may have something at the bottom reading that in some manuscripts it says in redemption through his blood. This would not be something that is incorrect right? says, Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins. Christ’s pure blood and his sacrifice is sufficient for salvation. We cannot add anything to it. Cults, legalism, other people may call themselves Christians, but they cannot if they add to the gospel of grace.

So what is our response to those who question salvation is obtained by any other means besides faith?
