Scripture
Mark 1:9–11 NIV
At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

God loves us

Outside of God's love, temptation has no power.
You cannot be more lost than lost.
Our experience tells us otherwise though.
We remember feeling tempted even before we professed Jesus as Lord and Savior
This demonstrates the gift of God in our conscience
And also the love of God in our lives before we do anything.
Mark 1:12–13 NIV
At once the Spirit sent him out into the wilderness, and he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. He was with the wild animals, and angels attended him.

The Spirit sends us

Mark uses the Greek word that means "to throw"
You won't have to search for the starting line in your ministry with God.
He will bring you right to it
If you are wondering where the line is and can't seem to see it, you might be standing on it.

Satan tempts us

James 1:13–15 NIV
When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
Temptation comes very near an opportunity to serve and be a witness for God.
Temptation comes very near an opportunity to serve and be a witness for God.
Temptation comes very near an opportunity to serve and be a witness for God.
It is in serving God that we find life
And in serving self that we find death
What about serving others?
Agape love: serving without reward or recognition and with no hope of making any difference.
Christ on the cross
Did His death end sin's power?
Yes and no.
Common temptations:
Fear
Rage
Desire
Distraction
How can we resist temptation and be obedient to God's call then?

God provides for us

Hebrews 2:14–18 NIV
Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels he helps, but Abraham’s descendants. For this reason he had to be made like them, fully human in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.
The Scripture we need to remember when facing temptation!
"Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil—and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. "
1 Corinthians 10:13 NIV
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it.
