Only (Truly) Salvation v. 1-4

Explanation: Waiting silently for God’s deliverance is not time wasted.
v. 1 God is the only source of salvation.

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

My help cometh from the LORD,

Which made heaven and earth.

v. 2 Carries the idea of our high ground. being upon a rock for salvation/victory.
v. 3-4 People with evil intentions may seek to do us harm or cast us down from the high ground, but God is our salvation, our rock and defence.
They are as a swaying wall or fence that is about to fall down.
Their desire is to remove you from your position at any means.
They encourage outwardly but curse inwardly. (hypocrisy)
Application: Though evil may swarm about us, God’s care is steadfast and his salvation is certain.
Illustration: Kennesaw Mountain, Stone Mountain, Civil War
Though evil may swarm about us, God’s care is steadfast.
We can be certain that the Gospel that saved us is the Gospel that sanctifies us.
We can be certain that we will not be consumed by the enemy that surrounds.
Beware: Don’t be the enemy. Speaking encouraging things outwardly while cursing inwardly.
Psalm 121

Only Hope v. 5-8

Explanation: God is the believer’s only true place of refuge from evil that surrounds. He is my only hope for victory over the world.
v. 5 “Wait silently upon God.”
The believer’s only hope is found in Him.
v. 6 We have hope because we stand on Him, our solid Rock.

He is the Rock, his work is perfect:

For all his ways are judgment:

A God of truth and without iniquity,

Just and right is he.

v. 7 “my glorious salvation” All of the psalmist’s hope is to be found in God alone.
Refuge - a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble
a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble
v. 8 The Psalmist desires that all would experience the hope that he has in God.
And a strong tower from the enemy.

For thou hast been a shelter for me,

And a strong tower from the enemy.

The Holy Bible: King James Version. (2009). (Electronic Edition of the 1900 Authorized Version., ). Bellingham, WA: Logos Research Systems, Inc.
“pour out your heart before him” seems to carry the idea of acknowledging and making known your needs to God in prayer.
We can do so because God is our refuge.
Application: We can hope in God because He is our sure place of refuge.
I don’t have to take measures into my own hands to protect myself from the world. The Gospel is sufficient. - v. 5-6
We can pour out our hearts to God because He is our refuge.
My desire should be as the Psalmist in v. 8, that others would trust in God as their only hope.
Illustration: Do you have a go to place?
v. 8 The Psalmist desires that all would experience the hope that he has in God.
Psalm 61:3

Only Trust v. 9-12

Explanation: We can rest in God, who is strong and loving.
v. 9 Placing trust in man is empty, whether they have riches, position, etc.
v. 10 We are not to trust in riches nor in those who’ve enriched themselves with robbery or extortion.
v. 8 Trust In
v. 10 Trust Not
Beware of covetousness. Do not set your heart upon riches if God blesses in that way.

Who will render to every man according to his deeds:

Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour.

Application: Those who trust in God will be satisfied with His abundant power and mercy.
