The First Seal - Gospel Conquest

Rev 6
Revelation 6:1–2 ESV
1 Now I watched when the Lamb opened one of the seven seals, and I heard one of the four living creatures say with a voice like thunder, “Come!” 2 And I looked, and behold, a white horse! And its rider had a bow, and a crown was given to him, and he came out conquering, and to conquer.
Revelation 1:14 ESV
14 The hairs of his head were white, like white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire,
14
Revelation 3:5 ESV
5 The one who conquers will be clothed thus in white garments, and I will never blot his name out of the book of life. I will confess his name before my Father and before his angels.
Revelation 7:13 ESV
13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, “Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?”
13
Revelation 7:14 ESV
14 I said to him, “Sir, you know.” And he said to me, “These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Revelation 14:14 ESV
14 Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and seated on the cloud one like a son of man, with a golden crown on his head, and a sharp sickle in his hand.
Revelation 19:11 ESV
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war.
Revelation 20:11 ESV
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them.
Rev 19
White in all other instances references God, Christ, or his people.
This would be the singular exception if white represents something other than purity and holiness.

The Second Seal - War

Revelation 6:3–4 ESV
3 When he opened the second seal, I heard the second living creature say, “Come!” 4 And out came another horse, bright red. Its rider was permitted to take peace from the earth, so that people should slay one another, and he was given a great sword.
The gospel brings war!
Luke 12:51–52 ESV
51 Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division. 52 For from now on in one house there will be five divided, three against two and two against three.
rev 6
Luke 12:51 ESV
51 Do you think that I have come to give peace on earth? No, I tell you, but rather division.
Luke 12

The Third Seal - Deprivation

Revelation 6:5–6 ESV
5 When he opened the third seal, I heard the third living creature say, “Come!” And I looked, and behold, a black horse! And its rider had a pair of scales in his hand. 6 And I heard what seemed to be a voice in the midst of the four living creatures, saying, “A quart of wheat for a denarius, and three quarts of barley for a denarius, and do not harm the oil and wine!”

5-6

Oil and Wine - Picture the comforts of life - these are privileges of the privileged. While the believes suffer under an oppressive system that makes them work all day just to survive.
Mark of the Beast - Can’t Buy or Sell! (These believers were getting locked out of the trade guilds and couldn’t work.

The Fourth Seal - Death

Revelation 6:7–8 ESV
7 When he opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth living creature say, “Come!” 8 And I looked, and behold, a pale horse! And its rider’s name was Death, and Hades followed him. And they were given authority over a fourth of the earth, to kill with sword and with famine and with pestilence and by wild beasts of the earth.
Rev 6:7-8
This is not the final judgment because it is limited in its scope.

The Fifth Seal - A Cry For Justice

Revelation 6:9–11 ESV
9 When he opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain for the word of God and for the witness they had borne. 10 They cried out with a loud voice, “O Sovereign Lord, holy and true, how long before you will judge and avenge our blood on those who dwell on the earth?” 11 Then they were each given a white robe and told to rest a little longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brothers should be complete, who were to be killed as they themselves had been.
Rev 6:911

“Those who dwell on the earth” is a technical term that represents the unbelieving world.

, , , , ,

The truth is bloody. It is soaked in the blood of martyrs who have died in the past, who are suffering somewhere right now, and who will one day soon stand courageously and seal the confession with blood.

There is a promise of justice but only after guilt reaches its climax.

The sixth seal - Justice Rendered.

Revelation 6:12–17 ESV
12 When he opened the sixth seal, I looked, and behold, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black as sackcloth, the full moon became like blood, 13 and the stars of the sky fell to the earth as the fig tree sheds its winter fruit when shaken by a gale. 14 The sky vanished like a scroll that is being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place. 15 Then the kings of the earth and the great ones and the generals and the rich and the powerful, and everyone, slave and free, hid themselves in the caves and among the rocks of the mountains, 16 calling to the mountains and rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who is seated on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb, 17 for the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?”

It is universal

It is unavoidable

It is terrible

It is unavoidable

If the kings of the earth, and the great ones, and general, and the rich, and the powerful, and the slave and free can’t stand on judgment day - Who Can Stand?
Psalm 1:5–6 ESV
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; 6 for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
Psal 1
These cataclysmic signs are not a signal that the end is coming but that it is hear.

In Christ alone, Who took on flesh, Fullness of God in helpless babe! This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones He came to save.

'Til on that cross as Jesus died, The wrath of God was satisfied For ev'ry sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live.
