Who is the Holy Spirit?
Vision 2018: Forward
Who is the Holy Spirit?
Joel 2:28:29
2018 March 4 AM
Introduction: Acts 2 is the testimony of the manifestation of this Prophetic Word. The Spirit was poured out on all flesh – Jew & Gentile. Jesus is still, in the 21st Century baptizing Believers in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues.
You need to know Who the Holy Spirit is in order to want to be baptized in Him.
I. Holy Spirit, Who is He?
A. Jesus is the Baptizer of the Spirit.
a. The chief reason the Holy Spirit came, Jesus said, John 15:14He will bring me (Jesus) glory by telling you whatever He receives from Me. NLT
b. To be “Baptized” in the Spirit is the same as “Baptized” in water: It is immersion - being completely submerged, engulfed, surrounded by what you are baptized in.
B. The Holy Spirit is often treated like the weekend father. The weekend father shows up at 6 o'clock on Friday & takes you fun places, buys you lots of things & then drops you off Sunday afternoon. You stand in the parking lot, wave bye, see you next time. That is a horrendous way to treat the precious Holy Spirit of God with irreverence & disrespect.
C. You. We must learn to allow the Holy Spirit to be in His rightful place in our life.
John 14:15-18 (BIBLE)
II. Who, not What is the Holy Spirit?
Why be Baptized in or immersed in the Holy Spirit if you do not know Who He is?
Remember the application: Moving forward with Who the Holy Spirit is.
A. Comforter Jesus said He would be "Another Comforter (Paraclete), just like Him."
How is He a Comforter?
a. He brings to Remembrance Christ's Words. John 14:26bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.
b. He Testifies concerning Christ. John 15:26"When the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, that is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me.
NOTE:
1. Jesus said, I will send to you from the Father.
2. He is the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father.
3. He will testify about Jesus.
c. He Abides Forever John 14:16"I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever."
B. Teacher
How is He a Teacher?
a. John 14:26But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything.
If you believe the Word of God regarding salvation, you must believe this Word also.
1. will teach you everything – Literally, to be a teacher, to impart instruction & instill doctrine.
2. What do teachers do?
They communicate what they are teaching. The Holy Spirit as Teacher, is a Communicator & John 16:13 says, “He will guide you into all truth.”
b. You find the Holy Spirit as a Teacher in the OT with Israel in the 40 years of wandering in the wilderness; Nehemiah 9: 20You also gave Your good Spirit to instruct them NKJV
NEXT
c. 1 Corinthians 2:9-10For to us God revealed them through the Spirit; for the Spirit searches all things, even the depths of God.
d. Listen to this prophetic word:
Proverbs 1:23Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.
C. Intercessor
How is He an Intercessor?
a. Romans 8:26Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
b. Weaknesses, Infirmities – Literally an inability to produce results.
c. Notice, it does not say intercession is for “His ministers.” It does not say, “Only a certain few or choice ones.” It says for US! “For the saints.”
III. The Holy Spirit calls the Lost to be Born Again.
A. This Body of Christ must have the Holy Spirit present to witness lost souls being saved. Those wondering souls being found & delivered. Who is the Holy Spirit?
a. The great Bible teacher RC Sproul wrote, "It is the ministry and work of the Holy Spirit to come to people who are spiritually dead, who are walking according to the course of this world and according to the prince of the power of the air, fulfilling the lusts of their flesh and of their minds, and to recreate them as He regenerates them." -RC Sproul
b. God & God alone can bring life out of death & something out of nothing.
c. Just as Jesus stood at the tomb of Lazarus & called him from death to life, this Comforter, Who is just like Him, calls from death to life.
B. The reason we can do this is because of the resurrection of Christ.
- He asks us to:
* Repent
* Live by Faith
* Be Baptized
* Be Filled with His Spirit
Conclusion: PRESENT THE GOSPEL FOR SALVATION – EVERY WEEK – AND THE NEED TO COME FORWARD IN PUBLIC ACCEPTANCE OF CHRIST.
