Another gospel
Galatians 1:6-10
6
I am amazed that you are so quickly deserting Him who called you
by
the grace of Christ, for a different gospel;
7
which is
really
not another; only there are some who are disturbing you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.
8
But even if we, or an angel from heaven, should preach to you a gospel
contrary
to what we have preached to you, he is to be
accursed
!
9
As we have said before, so I say again now, if any man is preaching to you a gospel
contrary
to what you received, he is to be
accursed!
10
For am I now seeking the favor of men, or of God? Or am I striving to please men? If I were still trying to please men, I would not be a bond-servant of Christ.
The gospel we preach directly determines the disciples we produce.
Discipleship is not optional
Jesus is counting disciples not decisions
A different gospel leads to a different Christ, a different church, a different Christian, and a different culture.

The Prosperity gospel
The Prosperity gospel teaches that God guarantees
health and financial wealth
if we just have enough faith and practice some basic biblical principles.
The danger of this gospel is believing that God is subject to our manipulation or has guaranteed a result if we do X, Y or Z.
It creates a spirit of
entitlement
and that we are empowered to speak a new reality.
We can name it and claim it.
We can
manage God
and get Him to serve our agenda.
The Consumer gospel
This gospel promises to provide everything a person on the go needs: convenience, speed, instant results. This gospel replaces the slow and difficult path of authentic spiritual maturity with methods and programs that give fast and easy results.
The consumer stands by the idea that the “customer is always right”
The consumer gospel creates a disciple who shops for a church until they find one that meets their needs.
The goal of the consumer gospel is to satisfy the needs of the consumer and to keep happy and pleased.
The gospel of the Right
The gospel tends to prioritize correct doctrine, adherence to a rather narrow moral code. It advocates separation from the culture.
What one believes is far more than anything you do. What constitutes saving faith is believing that
J
esus and his sacrifice are sufficient to get you into heaven.
So being saved is about going to heaven alone.
“Your so heavenly minded you are no earthly good.”
