People don’t get it
People don’t get it
But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.”
They just don’t get it. What good will a sign do when your hearts are cold and hard?
They need a breakthrough. They need eyes that see and ears that hear what’s right in front of them.
The disciples don’t get it
The disciples don’t get it
So He said to them, “How is it you do not understand?”
How is it that you don’t understand. We are so dense!!
Open our eyes Lord!
Conversation #1
Conversation #1
Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say that I am?”
Conversation #1:
Who do men say that I am?
The Pharisees are seeking a sign.
You guys don’t seem to get it.
What’s your conclusion?
The Real Question
The Real Question
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”
This is the only question that matters to every person that has ever lived.
Who do you say Jesus is? What do you do with Jesus?
Peter responds, "You are the Christ."
Jesus then explains what that statement ACTUALLY means. The Christ must suffer and die for sin and rise from the dead!
And He began to teach them that the Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and after three days rise again.
Peter's kinda get’s it
Peter's kinda get’s it
He spoke this word openly. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him. But when He had turned around and looked at His disciples, He rebuked Peter, saying, “Get behind Me, Satan! For you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.”
Peter had different definition of Christ and a different understanding of the mission of the Christ.
Words are only part of the equation.
Meaning of words matter.
Peter spoke out of a vision that was anti-Christ. Peter's vision of the role of the Messiah would have been limited and short sighted.
Conclusion: Who Do You Say Jesus Is?
