John 3:1-17
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.” Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I say to you, we speak of what we know, and bear witness to what we have seen, but you do not receive our testimony. If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how can you believe if I tell you heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except he who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
This is God’s word lets pray.

We got our boy here Nicodemus or as I like to call him - Nicki D
Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
Who is a Pharisee, which was a grass root, hard right, ultra conservative, Jewish movement thats focus was on religious purity.
We find the Pharisees normally against Jesus and trying to trip him up with hard questions. They are always trying to catch Jesus messing up or saying something wrong. Because they were threatened by His influence.
However there seems to be something different about Nicky D.
Nicky calls Jesus Rabbi, which is a sign of respect.
However he comes at night probably because he doesn't want his homeboys to know.
Also he says we know, Who is WE? That is not a reference to the pharisees but a reference to Jesus followers.
Nicky seems to be shifting in perspective from critic to curious.
He is Curious about Jesus and seems interested in following Jesus because of the signs and miraculous work of that Jesus was preforming.
Nicky D the religious good boy comes to Jesus at night calling Jesus Rabbi believing that Jesus is from God.
Understand this… He is good, by the standards of the current influential group and he is seeking out Jesus, calling him teacher, and from God.
Yet
Jesus Replied...
Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.”
Jesus here is stating that it is not his religious goodness, or the fact that he calls Jesus a good teacher or that he recognizes Jesus is from God.
Jesus seems to be saying that all of that doesn't matter because it is only through new birth that you can see the kingdom of God.
Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
Jesus replies dont make things weird!
Nicky D is thinking physical.
John 3:5-
Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’
Born of Water and Spirit
Some say this means you have to be baptized to finish your salvation.
Which is completely missing the point. Jesus is arguing against the physical not for it.
Some say this is natural birth, some say water is the word of God.
I think that most places in scripture water represents the Spirit or Life.
In the greek it says born of water and spirit I vies these as synonyms for the same thing. A spiritual birth.
Jesus says there is a new birth, that we are to be born again. And that we should not be surprised by this need.
John 3:
The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
There is something unexplainable and unpredictable about the Spiritual birth but also noticeable and clear.
Nicodemus said to him, “How can these things be?” Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?
Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel and yet you do not understand these things?

John 3:11
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
John 3:

Zacheus
He entered Jericho and was passing through. And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector and was rich. And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was about to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.” So he hurried and came down and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all grumbled, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.” And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”
