Motivation
True discipleship means laying down everything.
Counting the cost.
Going ALL IN.
Taking up your cross daily.
Dying to yourself and living for God alone.
Can you do that?
What if you are struggling with doubts?
What if you are unsure about what that really means?
Let Jesus help with some motivation today.
Let Jesus help with some motivation today.
We use Motivation in everyday life
Exercise: better Health and appearance
Education: more Job opportunities, greater knowledge, better pay
Clean house: like to see your floor, (personally) in-laws coming over, don’t want to have “that” conversation
LOVE motivates

The Real Jesus Shows Up (v.
2-4)
Imagine the scene: Jesus shining like the sun!
The Real Jesus...
(NKJV)
2 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, and led them up on a high mountain apart by themselves; and He was transfigured before them.
3 His clothes became shining, exceedingly white, like snow, such as no launderer on earth can whiten them.
4 And Elijah appeared to them with Moses, and they were talking with Jesus.
What is Jesus communicating about who He really is?
Jesus is the Creator and Sustainer of ALL things.
The holiness of Jesus is portrayed in the heavenly moment.
The light of the world pulls off His mask of humanity to reveal His celestial identity.
This is the first and the last!
This is the Holy one of God!
This is the Creator and sustainer of all things!
(NKJV)
16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.
All things were created through Him and for Him.
17 And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.
Do you get it yet?
Do you get it yet?
Do you get it yet?
The eternal God is walking this earth in the ultimate act of love for you and for me.
He is explaining to the disciples, "I am GOD!!!!"
Does that “change the game”?
Peter Gets Religious
Religion Shows Up (v.
5-6)
This is great BUT you are too HOLY and PURE and POWERFUL for us.
We can’t be in Your presence!
We should be dead!!
We are terrified!
Hide us from Your glory JESUS!
This doesn’t fit into my religious box.
Peter: “We need to set up rituals and barriers to protect us from the presence of God.”
We Need Religion!! God Himself is too scary!
We need RELIGION!! God Himself is too scary!

Moses meets with God on Mt.
Sinai and as a result “REFLECTS” God’s Glory
Here, God’s glory is seen again, on another mountain, Moses is present.
Another Mt.
Sinai?
NOOOOOOOOO, radically different!
Jesus produces the glory of God!!!!
The Shikanah Glory shines forth from Him!
Moses and Elijah point TO the glory of God.
Jesus is the Glory of God in human form!!
"But Jesus produces the unsurpassable glory of God; it emanates from him.
Jesus does not point to the glory of God as Elijah, Moses, and every other prophet has done; Jesus is the glory of God in human form.
The author of the book of Hebrews puts it like this: “The Son [Jesus] is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being” ()."

Moses meets with God on Mt Sinai, "reflects" God's glory
18 And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.”
19 Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you.
I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”
20 But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”
21 And the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock.
22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.
23 Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.”
Here, God's glory again on another mountain.
