Two Things:
Two Things:
Your Soul is of the highest importance and priority.
When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed. And Jesus saith unto him, See thou tell no man; but go thy way, shew thyself to the priest, and offer the gift that Moses commanded, for a testimony unto them.
And when Jesus was entered into Capernaum, there came unto him a centurion, beseeching him, And saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, grievously tormented. And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed. For I am a man under authority, having soldiers under me: and I say to this man, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. And I say unto you, That many shall come from the east and west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, in the kingdom of heaven. But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. And Jesus said unto the centurion, Go thy way; and as thou hast believed, so be it done unto thee. And his servant was healed in the selfsame hour.
And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid, and sick of a fever. And he touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto them. When the even was come, they brought unto him many that were possessed with devils: and he cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick: That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.
Now when Jesus saw great multitudes about him, he gave commandment to depart unto the other side. And a certain scribe came, and said unto him, Master, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus saith unto him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. And another of his disciples said unto him, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the dead bury their dead.
And when he was entered into a ship, his disciples followed him. And, behold, there arose a great tempest in the sea, insomuch that the ship was covered with the waves: but he was asleep. And his disciples came to him, and awoke him, saying, Lord, save us: we perish. And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm. But the men marvelled, saying, What manner of man is this, that even the winds and the sea obey him!
And when he was come to the other side into the country of the Gergesenes, there met him two possessed with devils, coming out of the tombs, exceeding fierce, so that no man might pass by that way. And, behold, they cried out, saying, What have we to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God? art thou come hither to torment us before the time? And there was a good way off from them an herd of many swine feeding. So the devils besought him, saying, If thou cast us out, suffer us to go away into the herd of swine. And he said unto them, Go. And when they were come out, they went into the herd of swine: and, behold, the whole herd of swine ran violently down a steep place into the sea, and perished in the waters. And they that kept them fled, and went their ways into the city, and told every thing, and what was befallen to the possessed of the devils. And, behold, the whole city came out to meet Jesus: and when they saw him, they besought him that he would depart out of their coasts.

For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?

And God Loves you as a Father:
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

Peter’s Trouble
Peter’s Trouble
ok now on to Peter:
Ok now to peter:
And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.
Peter was following but afar off, from a safe distance.
This is almost always how we get ourselves into trouble.
We follow - but afar off.
We follow - we go to church, pray, read, attend bible study - we follow
But some part of our lives we keep at a safe distance - so that we are able to keep a secret life, with secret thoughts, that no-one knows about.
But:
For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad.
Anyways: Peter though that no harm could come following Jesus at a safe distance. Lets see what happened:
Jesus is inside the High priests place on trial, people are lying about him, slapping him and spitting on Him - Peter is still outside in the courtyard:
mat 26>69-70
Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee. But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.
Peter Denied Jesus.
We cannot make light of this.
Peter actually said that he was not a follower of Christ.
Now a few things to note:
First this is very unlike the Peter we know:
Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus. But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me. And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt?
Also:
Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
Peter was ready to die and ready to kill!
This behaviour of Peter in the palace court, is very odd, it does not fit with what we know about him.
Also it cannot be overstated: Peter’s Soul was suddenly in mortal peril
But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
But nothing happens to Peter, he gets away with it.
Then…
And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth. And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
mat 26:71-72:
Now things are getting bad.
Lets not excuse Peter’s first denial - it was cowardice and wrong, but at the same time, lets just offer him extra grace because no one is perfect and after all “Let him who is without sin cast the first stone…”:
But now, a second denial, with an oath.
Once again:
1: This is very unlike Peter and if his soul was not in danger before it is now.
Come on Peter, you know better than this:
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Some thing is very wrong.
Surely this madness is going to stop?
Let see:
And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee. Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew. And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
He did it again. Thats 3 times..
And I’m sure he would have done it a 4th and a 5th and as many times as he felt he had to.
What finally stopped his madness? What finally woke Peter up out of his Spiritual distraction?
The rooster crowing.
And when the rooster crowed, when Peter snapped out of it, what was his response to the crowing of the rooster?
He wept bitterly.
The Chilling Sound of the Rooster
The Chilling Sound of the Rooster
Let me ask 2 question:
What did the crowing of the rooster do peters feeling and life at the moment?
It broke him. Peters wept bitterly, that is deep pain.
But what did the crowing of the rooster do for Peters long term spiritual life?
It saved his soul.
If that rooster had not crowed - and it was a god ordained crow by the way:
Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
So we can put it this way:
If God did not send that rooster to crow, peter would not have woken up out of his spiritual sleep, he would not have stopped and he would probably be in Hell.
IE: Thank God for the crowing of the Rooster, but also when you hear the rooster crow you will weep bitter tears.
Thank God for the crowing of the Rooster, but also when you hear the rooster crow you will weep bitter tears.
You Also have a Rooster
You Also have a Rooster
Roosters wake us up.
We have used them as alarm clocks for years. Thats what they do, at the right time in the mornings they begin crowing loudly and their calling wakes us up from our sleep.
Now the Spiritual Crowing of the rooster that Peter experienced first had does the exact same thing:
We fall asleep spiritually and i know that because i see and you know when you, like Peter, start behaving in a way that is not like your christian character.
Like Peter, you start following afar off and you start hanging around with the wrong crowed or start talking the wrong talk or starts behaving in a unchristian way.
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,
And you start living in a way that puts you in danger of falling away.
But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.
Your loving Father takes note of this church, he knows the very hairs on your head.
But there is always grace.
The rooster did not crow after Peters first denial.
A fall does not mean a falling away.
We are but guest and prone to make mistakes.
Peter is in danger, but he has not abandoned all reason…yet.
________
After the second denial, the rooster mouth is still held shut.
No need to bring the poor man to ruin, he had not yet set a precedent.
Peter may yet still find his courage.
________
But then, a third time.
That third time made a few things clear:
Peter was in a spiritual delusion. He was asleep when he should have been awake, and in his mad spiritual slumber he had walked to the very edge of Hell’s cliff.
One more step and it would have been eternal fire for his soul.
So his loving Father, who art in Heaven, was does God do?
He looses the beak of the rooster:
“ Crow now bird!. Cry at the top of your5 lungs! Wake my servant from his madness!”
The bird crows and as it does instantly Peter shake his head, he awakens from madness and finds himself in a place he should not be, with a people he should not be with and having done a thing he swore he would never do.
And the reality of his sin breaks him there and then and he weeps with out any comfort or help.
I want to warn you about the crowing of the rooster.
I want to warn you about the crowing of the rooster.
The crowing of the rooster comes in many forms.
To put it simple:
The crowing of the rooster that is that tragic event that causes you too finally wake up and see what you are doing that you your should may be saved!
and it always leaves you in bitter tears of anguish.
Listen to my warning:
The rooster crows in many ways:
To the person having an affair - your affair will send you to hell. Know this: Your rooster will be the day your spouse find out, they will divorcee you and take your children, they will leave you with nothing and you will know the meaning of sorrow - but you will end the air and your should will be saved.
________
To the person who looks at pornography, it is only a matter of time because you late night habits are accidentally shared on social media. You will loose your dignity, your friends will find out, your wife may leave you, your children will know. you will be devastated when that rooster crows, but if it causes you to snap out of it, God will cause it crow.
_________
To the person who is stealing. Their from work or if its your business from your clients or government.
Your rooster will crow, God loves you too much to leave it. You will be caught, you will be humiliated. You will be forever known as a criminal- - you will weep bitter tears, but if it causes you to stop stealing, God will do it.
_________
To the drug addict.
I get it, no harm, no foul.
The police are already investigating your supplier, they will bash down your door or set up a sting. you will to jail, and as you sit there in a the cell with murders and rapests, you will weep, oh you will cry like never before.
But if thats what it takes to wake you up….
__________
To the couple living in fornication, you are one moment away from bringing a child into this world. I have sat by many teenage girls who’s rooster has crowed.
Listen to me:
God is gracious and offers forgives to those who rest and trust in him.
We all make mistakes, but i have a feeling some of you are on denial number 2, and the rooster is about to crow.
you don’t want it to.
Wake up! Now!
Never happened to me: Peter said the exact same thing!
