Romans 6:3-8
Romans 6:3–8 (NLT)
3 Or have you forgotten that when we were joined with Christ Jesus in baptism, we joined him in his death?
4 For we died and were buried with Christ by baptism. And just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glorious power of the Father, now we also may live new lives.
5 Since we have been united with him in his death, we will also be raised to life as he was.
6 We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin.
7 For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.
8 And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him.
INTRODUCTION:
A- Baptism is one of the most misunderstood things that we do as a church.
1- Baptism does not save.
2- Baptism does not secure the Holy Spirit baptism into the body of Christ.
3- Baptism is not sacramental, but is an ordinance.
4- Baptism (according to the scriptures) is for believers only, by total immersion only.
Only believers were baptized throughout the book of Acts.
TS: To put the whole biblical teaching about baptism in capsule form, baptism is a testimony and an act of obedience.
I- Baptism gives witness to the timeless gospel of Christ (Romans 6:3 – 5).

A- The gospel defined (I Corinthians 15:1–4).
1 Corinthians 15:1–4 (NLT)
1 Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it.
2 It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.
3 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said.
4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said.
1- The person of the gospel (I Corinthians 15:1–3).

a- Christ is the only way

40 For as Jonah was in the belly of the great fish for three days and three nights, so will the Son of Man be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.
41 “The people of Nineveh will stand up against this generation on judgment day and condemn it, for they repented of their sins at the preaching of Jonah. Now someone greater than Jonah is here—but you refuse to repent.

Hymn lyrics:
“sinners Jesus will receive: sound this word of Christ to all
who the heavenly pathway leave, all who linger all who fall.
sing it o’er and o’er again;; Christ receives sinful men;
make the message clear and plain; Christ receives sinful men.”
He stands with his arms outstretched to you. Ready to receive you. Will not you say yes to him right now?
