The Law of Faith
The Law of Faith
Mark 2:18-22
I. The Religiosity of Piousness.
A. The Pharisees fasted as a way of demonstrating righteousness.
B. John’s disciples were guilty of the same.
II. The Lesson of the Law of Faith. (Romans 3:21-27)
A. Fasting put into it’s proper place.
B. The analogies of the supremacy of Grace.
1) Children of the Bride-chamber cannot fast.
It is surely a time for rejoicing.
2) New cloth sewn into an old garment.
When the cloth begins to shrink after getting wet, it will make the hole worse than before.
3) New wine cannot be put into old wine-skins.
New wine is not fully fermented; therefore, when it begins to ferment and expand, it will burst the dry hard wineskins.
III. A Lesson For Us.
A. The just shall live by faith.
Not parading our own piousness around.
Not by offering to God sacrifice upon sacrifice, ignoring the right and just which is a sweet smelling savor to God.
B. We must not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
C. Humbling ourselves before God that He would lift us up in due time, and not we lifting ourselves up.
