Introduction
Introduction
Everyone who sins is breaking God’s law, for all sin is contrary to the law of God. And you know that Jesus came to take away our sins, and there is no sin in him. Anyone who continues to live in him will not sin. But anyone who keeps on sinning does not know him or understand who he is.
Dear children, don’t let anyone deceive you about this: When people do what is right, it shows that they are righteous, even as Christ is righteous. But when people keep on sinning, it shows that they belong to the devil, who has been sinning since the beginning. But the Son of God came to destroy the works of the devil. Those who have been born into God’s family do not make a practice of sinning, because God’s life is in them. So they can’t keep on sinning, because they are children of God.
This text will tell us whether you’re a child of God or the Devil.
We get one overall truth & 2 key words (manifest, child of God)
Has not see God ()
Does not know God ()
Deceives people ()
by telling them that sin is okay

Child of God
Child of God
The word child of God appears: 6 times in the text (and 2 times he says little children)
The word child of God means: “born again”
it is interesting to me that only John & Peter say born again but when Paul speaks of the same things he says “adoption” (, ; ; ; ) & James (Jesus brother) just says “birth” (cf. ) or “bringing forth”
“birth” (cf. ) or “bringing forth”
“adoption” (cf. , ; ; ; )

A child of God practices righteousness (; ; )
Every family has a characteristic....(something that makes your family unique, special).
The characteristic of God’s family is righteousness.
What is righteousness?
A decree of God
It is sanctification… God working in you to be made more like Him (sanctification lit. - to make holy”)

It is by God’s love that we are called a child of God ()
I find this part very unique because it is right in the middle of a bunch of things a child of God has to do to be a child of God....
It is only by the love of God that we can repent of our sin (
And He said, “Therefore I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.”
The world does not know a child of God ()
because the world did not know Him
Jesus says again and again that the world does not know Him (, ; , ;
Then they said to Him, “Where is Your Father?”
Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also.”
Yet you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I say, ‘I do not know Him,’ I shall be a liar like you; but I do know Him and keep His word.
Jesus says again and again that the world does not know Him (cf. , ; , ;
“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.
But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.
And these things they will do to you because they have not known the Father nor Me.
A child of God will be like Jesus when He is revealed ()
we are to be Christ-like (; ; ; and
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.
till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;

who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself.
When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.
A child of God purifies himself ()
Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel?
