Goals in presenting the gospel to Children
• Simplicity and Completeness
• Simplicity and Completeness
The challenges in presenting the gospel to a child
• I prayed a prayer when I was five, but I did not really understand what I was doing
• Children are very impressionable
Principles that help with this challenge
• Salvation is a spiritual event
• You are not trying to give a sales presentation
• You are not just giving facts
• You are not in a debate
•
• No one comes unless the Father Draws
• The Father doesn't force; he illuminates the heart
• His invitation is for all.
• Take heed to yourself and the teaching ()
• This aids in rescue of yourself and others
• mentions the confession of sins in dealing with sick situation
• Pray
• Bring God's revealed will to save people before Him
• Prayer is not a formula to get God to act on our timetable
• It is something we should do confidently.
• We pray because of the one we know who does the work.
• It is a helpful idea to pray even in the presence of the camper.
• Have a plan for giving the plan of salvation
• This plan need to come from the authority of Scripture.
• Having them see it in Scripture is a good idea.
• Gospel Exchange App
• Go over this during April Session
• How to know if a child is ready
• I think it is vital to keep in mind whose work this is.
• After an invitation, it would be helpful to ask, "So what did you want to talk to me about?"
• Ask a lot of questions to find out what they think
• Ask open ended questions" What would you want Jesus to do for you?" rather than "Do you want to be saved?"
• What did you want to talk to me about?
• What is sin, and who has sinned
• Who is Jesus? Why is He unique so that you would put your trust in Him?
• What do you need to believe in order to be saved?
• What would you like Jesus to do for you?
• Be cautious about leading them in prayer
• Offer opportunity for salvation, but don't insist on getting saved now. Don't be the one to declare that they are saved.
• Avoid using vague or confusing phrases and avoid too much symbolism
• Only illustrate concepts that they do not understand
• Have a plan for follow up
• Encourage them to tell someone else
• Write down the decision to communicate with church and parents. We will cover this topic later.
