We often hear that we are in a spiritual battle
But it is often hard to see
We don’t see people walking around with guns and swords
We don’t see physical fighting
But here we see the physical manifestation(prakaTi-karan)
Of a spiritual battle
And take heed to yourselves, lest at any time your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting, and drunkenness, and cares of this life, and so that day come upon you unawares. For as a snare shall it come on all them that dwell on the face of the whole earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.
Every day of our lives is a spiritual battle
Hate good things
Youth, health, beauty
Opportunity, holiness
Every day of our lives is a spiritual battle
We put on the armor of God
We read our Bibles
We pray
We prepare
And the devil attacks
He tempts
He gives trouble
He gives the cares and worries of this world
Fashion, culture, things
He tries to cause anger, pride(garba), sin
He tries to cause us to leave the Lord
But we often don’t see it
Last week we saw that Satan and the unbeliever
Hate good things
Youth, health, beauty
Opportunity, holiness
But here the Bible shows us an illustration of that spiritual battle
And here, God shows us the enemy’s true goal
To kill and completely destroy us
What a warning Goliath gives David in verse 44!
And the Philistine said to David, Come to me, and I will give thy flesh unto the fowls of the air, and to the beasts of the field.
Hey this is a serious battle!
Just like our spiritual battle
This is not for play
Losers do not go home to families
They lie dead in the field
And the animals eat their flesh
Wake up!
Don’t sleep in this battle
Don’t play in this battle
Be serious
**Devil came with some pornography
Look at this, it will kill you and destroy you
Disobey your parents, because I want to kill you and destroy you
Steal that, because I want to kill you and destroy you
Argue with your wife, because I want to kill you and destroy you
Tell that lie, because I want to kill you and destroy you
We would jump back: “Whoah!”
The devil is deceiver(dhokebajale)
He hides his true goals
But the Bible warns us
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
He wants to kill and destroy.
How can we find victory?
Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Today, I just want to encourage you to be serious
Following Jesus is not a game
It is a serious thing
Do not give the devil opportunity to kill and destroy us
To feed our flesh to the animals
Watch and be serious
