John 19:28–30 KJV 1900
28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. 29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
Jesus’ plea of being thirsty was not from a thirst of physical flesh but one of undying diligence to fulfill the scriptures and the will of God our father.
Some may say that this young man is mad for Jesus was truly thirsty in body and spirit and once all things were done begin to realize just how thirsty his flesh was hanging there on the cross.
You see just earlier while carrying that old rugged cross says that
33 And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull, 34 They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
This is significant because Jesus’ desire his thirst to do our fathers will was so great that he wanted to be clear minded and physically able to do what was called of him.
The vinegar wine and gall mix is bitter to the taste but was used has an anesthetic to ease the pain and suffering of the people being crucified. And Jesus’ desire his thirst was not for a drink of this stuff referred to as poison or snakes venom in the old testament. , ;
38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.
You see that’s what’s going on in the church today. We couldn’t bare the burdened set before us so we stopped and began to drink this bitter foul stuff and now our senses are numbed to what’s going on around us. we see the affects every day in our society and in our churches. We allow to much to go on in our churches with out taking a stand Yes we should be compassionate for we all have sinned but we should strive to over come sin not just accept it.
We must learn to depend upon the Holy Spirit with love and compassion for, how many of us take the sufferings of that cross and become as bitter as gall and begin to poison the church like snakes venom
(someone right here today is crying out I thirst)
I thirst said Jesus hanging on the cross as he now becomes the one that’s the least of all of us as he began to taste the sting of death.
,
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
{ Jesus the Living Water}
Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.
[11] The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
[12] Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
[13] Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
[14] But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink.
[38] He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.
LET IT FLOW LET IT FLOW
[39] (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)
CAN YOU HEAR THE CRY OF i thirst by the one sitting next to you in the church.
CAN YOU HEAR THE CRY OF some even sitting in the church.
Oh Can You Hear The Cry Of The Unsaved World:
OH; I THIRST
FOR THE WATERS OF EARTH HAVE Failed
AN I AM THIRSTING STILL
AN I AM THIRSTING STILL
I THIRST FOR SPRINGS OF HEAVENLY LIFE.
AND HAVE ALL DAY THEY RISE
I SEEK THE TREASURE OF THY LOVE
AND CLOSE AT HAND IT LIES
WILL THE CHILDREN OF GOD ANSWER THEIR DESPAIRING PLEA OR LIFT UP THEIR EYES IN HELL AND THIRST AS WELL.
