[1] Title
Most recent verses: Draw on the riches of Christ by walking in him (meaning rooted in him, built up in him, established in the faith, and abounding in thanksgiving).
Now:
A warning to resist,
a reminder you are ‘in Christ’ and some more about what that means,
a declaration that your debt has been paid, your sins were nailed to the cross, and God has made us alive,
and he wants us to know Christ has triumphed over evil powers and disarmed them.
[2 - 9] Scripture
Colossians 2:8–15 ESV
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ. For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead. And you, who were dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made alive together with him, having forgiven us all our trespasses, by canceling the record of debt that stood against us with its legal demands. This he set aside, nailing it to the cross. He disarmed the rulers and authorities and put them to open shame, by triumphing over them in him.

Made Alive Together with Christ

A Warning to Resist

v8
Colossians 2:8 ESV
See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.
Paul was not putting down philosophy. Philosophy means love of wisdom.
Paul was not putting down philosophy. Philosophy means love of wisdom.
Both Judaism and Christianity are philosophical in a sense because they set wise values to guide life.

Hollow and deceptive philosophy depends on human tradition. The whole system presented by the false teachers in Colossians was mere “basic principles of this world”—an ignorant child’s play with ABC’s—not the advanced truth they claimed.

What Paul was warning against - I’ve said this many times throughout this series - were the hollow and deceptive philosophies that built on human tradition and are mixing with Christianity

Remember, You Are IN HIM

v9,10,11,12
Colossians 2:9–12 ESV
For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority. In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead.
Colossinas 2:9-12
“In Christ:” In his Death, Burial, and Resurrection.
Death: Spiritually shared in his death. Sinful nature was cut away; they died to their former way of life.
Burial:
Galatians 2:20 ESV
I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Romans 6:6–7 NLT
We know that our old sinful selves were crucified with Christ so that sin might lose its power in our lives. We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin.
Preaching the Word: Colossians and Philemon—The Supremacy of Christ "In Christ": His Death, Burial, and Resurrection (vv. 11, 12)

The “old self,” the person we were before conversion, was crucified with Christ. The “body of sin,” formerly a vehicle for sin, has been rendered inoperative. Here is the fullness which Christ has given us. We are free to live life to its fullest—free from the domination of sin. In a world that is always seeking the full life, believers are the only ones for whom it is truly possible.
