Ephesians 1:6–9 NASB95
6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved. 7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace 8 which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight 9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him
(NASB95)
Paul here write about the gift of Grace
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
8 which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight
9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him
Paul here write about the gift of Grace
When I think of a gift (singular) I think of one thing. Like one gift or one gift of power.
And a gift is something that is usually given by someone else. I didn't have to purchase it myself. So it free. Now I understood that part about a free gift
He has freely or my translation says bestowed , meaning to present an honor a right or a gift. Meaning the gift giver is a man of distinction or power.
Now Remember Jesus is the King of Kings
Notice the next verse
In Him (the King) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
Ephesians 1:7 NASB95
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
NASB)
It speaks about redemption though His blood which is very awesome. Then goes back to grace which is what?
The Greek word for grace is the word, Charis which is also translated to the English word favor.
Charis has various uses.
To bestow pleasure or delight. lets talk about words of grace
It also means to be in favor with someone
Acts 2:47 NASB95
47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
(NASB95)
favor, Charis
47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.
Having charis (grace) with all people. The lord added
So grace is favor.
Now look at
James 4:6 NASB95
6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Now James give us the idea of more grace. that God can give us greater grace.
6 But He gives a greater grace. Therefore it says, “God is opposed to the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Grace indicates that which is freely given without merit upon the part of the receiver.
Now James give us the idea of more grace that God can give us greater grace.
Grace is not limited to God ability to forgive but grace is also POWER or strength.
“Grace isn't a little prayer you chant before receiving a meal. It's a way to live.” The law tells me how crooked I am. Grace comes along and straightens me out.” -DL Moody
“God's grace turns out men and women with a strong family likeness to Jesus Christ, not milksops.” -Oswald Chambers
John chapter one when it speaks of Jesus says,
John chapter one when it speaks of Jesus says,
“Abounding sin is the terror of the world, but abounding grace is the hope of mankind.” -A. W. Tozer
“Grace does not destroy nature, it perfects it.” -Saint Thomas Aquinas
John chapter one when it speaks of Jesus says,
John 1:14–16 NASB95
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth. 15 John testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’ ” 16 For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.
(NASB95)
The Word Made Flesh
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 John testified about Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me has a higher rank than I, for He existed before me.’ ”
16 For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.
Now look at there. Jesus is Full of Grace and Truth
Verse 16
For of His fullness we have all received, and grace upon grace.
This speaks of an unlimited supply
He aint gonna run out.’
Romans 5:20 KJV 1900
20 Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound:
romans 5:23
Ill come back to that
Looking at all these definition and verse 6 in our text we see grace defined as a Power.
Now watch how this read in the KJV
Ephesians 1:6 NASB95
6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, which He freely bestowed on us in the Beloved.
(KJV 1900)
Made us accepted in the beloved
6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Made us accepted in the beloved
So here we see grace as an ability or power.
Verse
Ephesians 1:7 NASB95
7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
ep7
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace
Forgiveness of our trespasses
Now trespasses of transgressions is defined as,
“to go aside” hence “to go beyond”
Trespasses is not just sinful acts but it deal with bad attitude lack of faith depression fear anxiety.... So forth anytime we go beyond His boundaries
So for those of us who have done this He is rich in grace.
Back to my earlier point. Not only is He a man of distinction He is rich and doesn't give cheap gifts.
Since He is not a cheap giver and grace is not a cheap gift you would assume that he would be frugal with His giving.
He has greater grace. He has the ability to pour out grace upon grace.
But verse 8 says
Ephesians 1:8 NASB95
8 which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight
ep 1:
which He lavished on us. In all wisdom and insight ( NASB)
Lavished means to cover or pour our in great abundance He just pours it out.
Like it's nothing. Something so valuable He pours it out to his beloved. Like water. Making it rain
He’s like Kenning passing out insurance… you get insurance.. you get insurance...
And what's the result of His generosity?
Wisdom and insight!!
Whats wisdom? Wisdom personified is God. Wisdom referring to man is Understand..
The fear of the Lord is the Beginning of wisdom.
God gives us a grace to have an understanding of the things of God.
1 Corinthians 2:16 NASB95
16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.
(NASB95)
Insight meaning
16 For who has known the mind of the Lord, that he will instruct Him? But we have the mind of Christ.
Insight meaning
understanding, practical wisdom
Id define it as revelation
And as I was praying and asking God for more grace so that I could have more wisdom and insight He took me to the next verse
He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposedin Him
Ephesians 1:9 NASB95
9 He made known to us the mystery of His will, according to His kind intention which He purposed in Him
NASB)
The 1st cool thing is that He has a will, a desire. A perfect will and desire for me.
The 1st cool thing is that He has a will. A perfect will for me.
Jeremiah 29:11 NASB95
11 ‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.
(NASB95)
11 ‘For I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope.
According to His what
Yes.. That explains why He's so generous with His grace!
Lol. He's generous because He is kind.
He’s no scudge…
And all of His future desire for us are welfare and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope!
why?
Because He is kind
and because He is kind we can trust His direction and leadership over our lives.
even when life get hard… even when we get sick.. or sick and tired.
because of this we can stay in His boundaries and not trespass into fear or anxiety.
we dont have to worry…
He will pour out an abundance of grace to cause us to be stable and steadfast in Him.
we dont have to worry o
God I repent of my trespassing and lack of faith in your process. I believe again that your plan and desires for me are Good. I trust you and thank you for pouring out to me the kindness in your heart
Amen
