Proverbs 3:28 KJV 1900
Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; When thou hast it by thee.
Debt is based on a philosophy(darshan-shashtra) of the world
Debt is based on a philosophy(darshan-shashtra) of the world
Based on impatience(adairya)
Based on greed(lobh)
Not on being content(asamtosh)
Based on self-focus
“I want this right now!”
---------------
Our society has a big problem with debt
Especially in many developed countries
But also here in Nepal
Many people make themselves slaves by debt
They take loan for car
They take loan for house
They take loan for school
And after, they are slaves to the bank(to the giver)
They cannot say no
They take bad work
They leave the country and their family
Biblical responsibilities
They do not come to church
Disobey God’s commands about fellowship
------------------
Proverbs 22:7 KJV 1900
The rich ruleth over the poor, And the borrower is servant to the lender.
What is debt?
Especially in many developed countries
But also here in Nepal
Many people make themselves slaves by debt
They take loan for car
They take loan for house
They take loan for school
And after, they are slaves to the bank
They cannot say no
They take bad work
They leave the country and their family
Biblical responsibilities
They do not come to church
Disobey God’s commands about fellowship
Obligation(daayitva) of money or property to another person or business
:
Matthew 6:25–31 KJV 1900
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
__Bondage__(daasata)
Financial bondage(vittiya) daasata
The Bible says nothing good about debt
And many times it calls debt a bad thing
What are the results(parinaam-haru) of debt - Financial bondage?

#1 Worry

We often focus on money in 2 ways: 2 worries
When we have much - How can I keep it?
When we have little - How can I get more?
But with debt we add more worry/concern

#2 Tension(tanaabv)

The Bible’s first mention(ullekha) of strife(kalaha) is about a “lack”(water - )
In marriage, 2 people are joined - made one()
God’s Will is for that joining to continue till death
But we often add pressure(dabaau) to that joint
Unnecessary(anaabashyak) pressure
When families are broken up, most say that it is because of financial pressure
There are different financial problems”
No job
Health problems
Natural disaster(prakop)(earthquake)
War(yuddha)(Syria)
But there are 2 causes(kaaran-haru) of money problems that come from self
Laziness(aalasya)
Debt

#3 Wasting Money

Third result(parinaam)
Many people do not understand the mathematics of compound interest(byaaj)
If you take a loan of 7 lakh at national average(13%)
You will pay 1 lakh interest(byaaj) each year - interest only
This is wasted money
Gives you no profit!

#4 Brings curse instead of blessing

The Bible says that the reward for obedience is freedom from debt
Proverbs 3:28 KJV 1900
Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; When thou hast it by thee.
Psalm 37:21 KJV 1900
The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: But the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.
Proverbs 17:18 KJV 1900
A man void of understanding striketh hands, And becometh surety in the presence of his friend.
Freedom from debt is a blessing:
Deuteronomy 28:1 KJV 1900
And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:
Deut
Deuteronomy 28:12 KJV 1900
The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.
Debt is a curse:
Debt is a curse:
Deuteronomy 28:15 KJV 1900
But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:
Deuteronomy 28:43 KJV 1900
The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low.

#5 We trade God’s will for our own will

When we take a loan,
We are making our own plan for our own life
we assume(maani-linu)
That our health will always be good
That we will always have good job
We assume everything will be good
We assume that no new needs will come
Our will!
But maybe that is not God’s plan
Maybe he has suffering(grasit)
Maybe he has a different job with less pay
Maybe he has health problems
I know that we do not like these things
But if we look back at our lives,
God has given everybody difficult situations and trials
Unwanted(nachahaeko) situations
Difficulties(kaThinaai)
We are foolish to think we will live an easy life
2 Timothy 3:12 KJV 1900
Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
James 1:2 KJV 1900
My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
Isaiah 43:12 KJV 1900
I have declared, and have saved, and I have shewed, When there was no strange god among you: Therefore ye are my witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God.
1 Peter 5:10 KJV 1900
But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
Troubles will come!
When we take debt,
We put our easy plan
In front of God’s plan
And if God doesn’t do your plan
You become bitter
You become angry
You turn away from God
You doubt(sandeha garnu) God’s goodness(bhalaai)
Debt is turning to man instead of God for provision
Especially in many developed countries
But also here in Nepal
Many people make themselves slaves by debt
They take loan for car
They take loan for house
They take loan for school
And after, they are slaves to the bank(to the giver)
They cannot say no
They take bad work
They leave the country and their family
Biblical responsibilities
They do not come to church
Disobey God’s commands about fellowship
Matthew 6:25–31 KJV 1900
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them.
