Does being a Christian make us immune to disasters

Mark 4:35-41
35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, "Let us go over to the other side." 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him.
37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, "Teacher, don't you care if we drown?" 39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, "Quiet! Be still!" Then the wind died down and it was completely calm. 40 He said to his disciples, "Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?" 41 They were terrified and asked each other, "Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!" (NIV)
- Don’t you care…?" (Don’t question his Love!)
- Many people ask this question first to God. Don’t you care?
- Of course God cares. “They why doesn’t he do something?
- God is not into controlling everything; he gave us authority in the earth. Are we using it? Z.b. prayer about the floods last week at the camp.
Does being a Christian make us immune to disasters? No!
Ø There are only two reasons the devil will attack us:
o 1. When you are doing something wrong
o 2. When you do something right.
- Why are you so afraid? (Don’t question his presence and his power)
- I am with you.
- They went from being afraid of the storm to being afraid of Jesus
- Do you still have no faith? (Don’t question your faith, use it)
- Here is an opportunity to practice/use your faith.
John 14:12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. (NIV)
James 1:2-4
Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (NIV)
Don't give up. We are called to fight.
1Ti 6:12 Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses.
1 Pet 5:7-10 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. 9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. 10 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. (NIV)
