Jesus is Truth and Love

The first thing we learn is that Jesus teaches the Truth.
Hut story

Jesus is Truth

1. At the very beginning of his ministry Jesus announces what he has come to do in
Mark 1:14–15 NIV
After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
1.Jesus announces what he has come to do in
Mark does not pause very often in his gospel to give us places and times in Jesus’ ministry. because he does here means that this is a very important statement of Jesus
Jesus’s Truth is to share with the world the truth about the kingdom of Heaven.
Truth produces Belief: Trust Jesus’ Authority as King. Need to see Jesus with eyes of Faith
Truth Produces Repentance: Turn around from trusting in your own truth and trust in Jesus’ Truth. We will see tonight that involves seeing our own need of Jesus, our sin.
Jesus makes it clear that he has come to share with the world the truth about the kingdom of Heaven.
The truth includes:
the only way to God will be through believing Jesus’ truth and repenting.
The Truth of Jesus Produces 2 things:
Truth produces Belief: Trust Jesus’ Authority as King. Need to see Jesus with eyes of Faith
Truth Produces Repentance: Turn around from trusting in your own truth and trust in Jesus’ Truth. We will see tonight that involves seeing our own need of Jesus, our sin.
Jesus is claiming to be king of heaven ‘come near’ v15 in him and now we need to respond.
His is the greatest truth
Jesus is claiming to be king of heaven ‘come near’ v15 in him and now we need to respond.
Only the Messiah, the Son of God has the authorty to claim to have the whole truth about God and Life.
This is not just a truth but the truth
Only the Messiah, the Son of God has the authorty to claim to have the whole truth about God and Life.
John 1:40–42 NIV
Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus. The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, “We have found the Messiah” (that is, the Christ). And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, “You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas” (which, when translated, is Peter).
: 40-
Andrew recognises Jesus as the mesiah, christ King and responds to his authority by beieving his truth. He finds his brother and they both follow Jesus becoming his first disciples.
Repentance: Turn around from trustung in your own truth and trust in Jesus’ Truth. We will see tonight that invloves seeing our own need of Jesus, our sin.

So Jesus begins his ministry by calling people to believe the truth.

Jesus calls his first disciples, Simon and Andrew at Capernaum a little village on the shore of the sea of Galilee in .

Mark 1:16–18 NIV
As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” At once they left their nets and followed him.
Simon Peter and Andrew are super clear about what Jesus is telling the Truth and clear what the truth means for them.
When Jesus called, Mark records at once Simon and Andrew left their nets and followed him. This is where he begins his ministry.
John gives us some more detail here. Andrew from the very beginning saw the truth about Jesus that he had great authority to teach the truth.
Andrew knew Jesus was not just another teacher, Rabi, who claimed to teach a truth, but the one true messiah who came to teach the truth!

This all takes place in Capernaum

Simon Peter and Andrew are super clear about what Jesus wants from his followers. When he called, Mark records at once they left their nets and followed him. This is where he begins his ministry.
We see from . that Jesus begins ministering to people in the town of Capernaum. Where Simon and Andrew live.
The people of Capernaum are amazed at his teaching . Because he taught with authority, even the demons obeyed him.
Mark 1:21–24 NIV
They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach. The people were amazed at his teaching, because he taught them as one who had authority, not as the teachers of the law. Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”
Mk 1:21-
Mark 1:25–28 NIV
“Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, “What is this? A new teaching—and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him.” News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee.
Even the demons believed Jesus is the King of Heaven. King Jesus not only has authority over people like Simon and Andrew, but also impure spirits.
Capernaum
Jesus teaches the truth and shows love to the people he is teaching. Jesus is not only a king who speaks truth with authority, he is also is a good King who loves us with authority.
In this story but we see a man in the Synogoguewe also see his love in this story. Jesus is not only a king who speaks with authority, he is also is a good King who loves us.
The man at the Synogouge that day was greatly burdened by evil spirits and Jesus set him free from the control of the demons.
The

Jesus is Love

At the begining of his ministry we see Jesus pausing time and time again to love people, to heal people of their sickness and to drive demons out.
At the begining of his ministry we see Jesus pausing time and time again to heal people of their sickness and to drive demons out of people.
He does this as he gets about his ministry to teach the truth that the Kingdom of Heaven is near.
They are currently in the town of
In Our Passage tonight we see that he has come to heal us from our real need which is our own sin. What we will see tonight is that Jesus’ ministry is a balance of truth teaching and healing love.
Matthew adds in that Jesus also continued to heal the sick everywhere he went. . and large crowds came from all over the country to see and hear him.
While Jesus is in Capernuam, the News about him had spread quickly
Capernaum
Matthew adds in that Jesus also continued to heal the sick everywhere he went. . and large crowds came from all over the country to see and hear him.
Matthew 11:4–6 NIV
Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”
Let’s turn to to see how Jesus’ ministry unfolds in Capernaum.

Jesus’ Ministry of Truth and Love

Jesus’ Ministry is Love and Truth
Matthew 11:4–6 NIV
Jesus replied, “Go back and report to John what you hear and see: The blind receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, and the good news is proclaimed to the poor. Blessed is anyone who does not stumble on account of me.”
Matt 11:4-6

Jesus Teac Simons Mother-in-law

Mark 1:29
Mark 1:29–31 NIV
As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.
Mark 1:29–34 NIV
As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew. Simon’s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they immediately told Jesus about her. So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them. That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.
Mk 1:29-
Simons Mother-in-law, loving people who were really close to him
That evening we see an example of Jesus not just loving those close to him but also the whole town.
There is an encouragement to us to not only love those who love us, but seek to love everyone.

Jesus Heals Many

But how can we do that it seems overwhelming. Well we need to have a balanced ministry as we love those close to us and love those who are not.
Mark 1:32–34 NIV
That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed. The whole town gathered at the door, and Jesus healed many who had various diseases. He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.
Let’s look at how jesus maintains balance as he loves those close to him and love those who are not.

Jesus’ goes to Pray in a Solitary Place

Mark 1:35–39 NIV
Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed. Simon and his companions went to look for him, and when they found him, they exclaimed: “Everyone is looking for you!” Jesus replied, “Let us go somewhere else—to the nearby villages—so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.” So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
Mark 1:35-
What we learn:
Jesus recharges alone.
He rechanrges alone from God
That gives him focus not to loos balance
The outcome of his rest and prayer is to have focus:
v38 So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
This is maintaining consistency with what he said in Mar1:14. I have come to declare or to preach the the coming of the Kingdom of heaven.
I have come to declare or to preach the the coming of the Kingdom of heaven.
v39, So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.
He continued to move around preaching the truth with love. But he never let’s his preaching ministry be delayed. But also he never lets his preaching truth ministry stop him loving people.

Next Jesus Heals a man with Leprosy

Mark 1:40–45 NIV
A man with leprosy came to him and begged him on his knees, “If you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus was indignant. He reached out his hand and touched the man. “I am willing,” he said. “Be clean!” Immediately the leprosy left him and he was cleansed. Jesus sent him away at once with a strong warning: “See that you don’t tell this to anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them.” Instead he went out and began to talk freely, spreading the news. As a result, Jesus could no longer enter a town openly but stayed outside in lonely places. Yet the people still came to him from everywhere.
Mark 1:40
Jesus is described as indignant in verse 41,
not because he is an unclean leper, He touches him as he heals him,
Not because he is too busy teaching and he is interupted, he constantly stops and loving shows compassion on people everywhere he goes.
No he is angry at the effetcs of sin on this man’s life, ravaged by a terrible desease.
This is a beautiful of Jesus love and truth in action. He loves the man, and then says to testify. to what has happened
But hang on does he not say keep quiet.
So Jesus is not overwhelmed with too much attention too early in his ministry.
No he was enstructed to testify to the truth in a certain way.
Go to the priests:
This is the ancient way God has instructed his peiple to testify to the work of God in healing. This was how to testify that the healing had come from God and not just from an evil spirit.
Jesus’ instruction was so there would be a testemony to the truth of his love.
, It is prescribed in the mosaic law that a healed person should show himself to the priests, who alone can declare him clean.
Jesus’ instruction was so there would be a testemony to the truth of his love.
Jesus had purpose in his loving instruction he wanted the truth to reveal how the loving act was from God.
This would be a testamony against them because the religious leaders are challanging Jesus authority to teacj the truth and to love people.
instead he did the opposite and told everyone and played into the hands of Jesus opponents who want to trap him.
We see the interaction with the religious leaders in the next section

Jesus Forgives and Heals a Paralyzed Man

Mark 2:1–12 NIV
A few days later, when Jesus again entered Capernaum, the people heard that he had come home. They gathered in such large numbers that there was no room left, not even outside the door, and he preached the word to them. Some men came, bringing to him a paralyzed man, carried by four of them. Since they could not get him to Jesus because of the crowd, they made an opening in the roof above Jesus by digging through it and then lowered the mat the man was lying on. When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.” Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?” Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? But I want you to know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man, “I tell you, get up, take your mat and go home.” He got up, took his mat and walked out in full view of them all. This amazed everyone and they praised God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”
Here we see a great example of love and truth.
He is teaching
Pauses his teaching to love the paralized man
But also pauses to love the man to teach.
He declares his sin forgive
Pharasies angry only God can forgive sin
Then heals as well.
The man expreiences the 3 realities of truth and love
1.Hears the king declare His sin is forgiven. This is truth and also the most loving thing ever
He has sin forgives
2. Experiences the anger of Jesus opponents. But sees Jesus is not afraid to continue in truth and love.
3. Jesus shows his authority to forgive sins by healing. This is another loving act that testifys to the truth of Jesus’ Kingly authority.

Every word and Action of Jesus is truth and Love all the Time.

John 14:6 NIV
Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
John 14
John 3:16 NIV
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.
