John 6:16–21 NKJV
16 Now when evening came, His disciples went down to the sea, 17 got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them. 18 Then the sea arose because a great wind was blowing. 19 So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid. 20 But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” 21 Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.
john 6

No matter the number of the storm, He’s trying to get you to the other side WITH HIM ON THE BOAT

Intro

cebo and it’s language is where it’s built with
Christianity can be a placebo and it’s language is where it’s built with
“Just pray about it.”
“It’ll be alright.”
“Fix it Jesus.”
“He won’t put no more on you than you can bare.”
“He’s going to wipe all of our tears.”
Songs add to it, “Take your to the Lord and leave them there.”
Not that any of these things are wrong, but they can be code for “I don’t know what to do or say.”
Our songs
What are we missing? We’ve commanded the storm. We’ve grown our faith. Not that it hasn’t worked, but doesn’t it seem to feel that we’re missing something?
blog ‘Unlocking the Bible’ - “JESUS Didn’t Dome to Calm Storms “
By Joel Stuckli
The Storm Is Not the Point
Storms threaten to sink our faith. These are not every day inconveniences like a flat tire or a hassle at work. These are the difficulties that cause us to question God’s goodness. Prolonged illness, the death of a loved one, a loss of purpose, a marriage destroyed—and it seems like God is asleep. If he really cared, if he really understood, then surely he would stop this from happening. We pray for healing and relief, for opportunity, for reconciliation, for anything that will make the storm pass.
I’d have to grudging agree. It’s not that He doesn’t care what is happening or what has happened, but He does care about how we get over it!!!
Marvin Sapp - “Never Would’ve Made It”
I'm stronger, I'm wiser I'm better, much better When I look back over all you brought me through I can see that you were the one I held on to
Backend story: He’d just lost his father. 3 days
What Marvin didn’t know is that he’d need the same song to help him get through the death of his wife died 9/10
Pt: It was in the storm that he learned to draw strength on the only one that could give him strength.
App: It’s in the storms that you grow. Which answers the question why God uses so many literally and figurative storms in the life of the Bible characters that have become our heroes.
There are literally 6 different storms counted in the NT
No Bible character goes without a storm and in most cases multiple storms
App: I don’t have to look far to see and remember storms in the lives of people here that are stronger, wiser, better
Testify: I personally am stronger
Pt: God uses storms to GROW us!!!!

Theme and point of John

John 20:30–31 NKJV
30 And truly Jesus did many other signs in the presence of His disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you may have life in His name.
believe = trust
Revelation-God will use a storm(s) to re-program us!!!!
92 times through out John “believe”
Most storms are celebrated on the other side. But the other miracle happens in the MIDDLE of the storm!!!
John 6:20 NKJV
20 But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.”
Poll who’s in middle of storm? Announcement Gods after change in you NOT. I want to suggest when you don’t learn what He wants you to the first time He’ll send another.

Observations

no details about the storm
Don’t know what time it is
We don’t know which of the disciples are there
We don’t know what kind of boat - other storms Jesus was in the hinder part of the ship
they row 3-4 miles 30 mins to row 1 mile in good weather
Pt: By the time Jesus shows up, they’re exhausted but still trying
Re-read
Add a fact: The theme of John is to show it’s readers that Jesus is God
Textual App: This story is shaded w the fact that John is trying to get his readers to see that Jesus is God ready to get in their boat
Textual App: God will keep using storms to get you to see who the One we’ll worship and celebrate on Easter is and that HE wants to have a personal relationship with me!!!!
John 6:21 NKJV
21 Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.
ego eimi
“immediately” same word used when the man w withered hand was removed from his jacket; and He touched his eyes and immediately his sight was restored; Peter’s denial of Christ - after third time “immediately the rooster crowed”
“I AM”
Here’s the way you get the other miracle
This is the same name that God gave Moses to give to Pharoah in OT
Secret: The text never said that He stopped the storm!!!!
Introduction/Announcement
John 6:19–20 NKJV
19 So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid. 20 But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.”

Offer AND Acceptance

John 6:19–20 NKJV
19 So when they had rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid. 20 But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.”
john 6:

Ill: Ebay really expensive glasses
He made the offer - it took someone to see the value of what he was offering. Ebay has a feature that you can watch an item. Several other people were watching but they weren’t responding.
Reception “they willingly
John 6:20–21 NKJV
20 But He said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid.” 21 Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.
Reception “they willingly
Pt: Sometimes God creates some environments to see if what you say on Sunday, you mean on Monday.
App: shouting, praising and worshipping God, on Monday do you still want Him?

Immediately

Time warp
“immediately” same word used when the man w withered hand was removed from his jacket; and He touched his eyes and immediately his sight was restored; Peter’s denial of Christ - after third time “immediately the rooster crowed”
Here’s the way you get the other miracle
Secret: The text never said that He stopped the storm!!!!
Prophecy: When you trust Him…your IMMEDIATELY is on the way!!!
John 6:21–22 NKJV
21 Then they willingly received Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going. 22 On the following day, when the people who were standing on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except that one which His disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not entered the boat with His disciples, but His disciples had gone away alone—
John 6:21–22 The Message
21 So they took him on board. In no time they reached land—the exact spot they were headed to. 22 The next day the crowd that was left behind realized that there had been only one boat, and that Jesus had not gotten into it with his disciples. They had seen them go off without him.
john 6:21,22
Your trust is what is going to separate you from the rest of the boats!!!

This text is really and only about, do you trust Him?
