Who is the writer of this Psalm?
David
Tell me why David wrote this statement in v.1?
He wrote it in response to complaints they hey probably dealt with from his people.
Remember he is a King and leader for his people.
So in response to them he writes this can deduce their question from his statement.
Their question was probably something like this: Why do people who live recklessly seem to have a clear path of direction, and enjoyment in their life.
-(v.3) “Trust in the Lord” Trust or Faith must always have an object.
Faith or Trust is usually followed by a preposition letting you know what to have Faith in.....Let me show you this:
-(v.7)
Notice the preposition is connected to Military Might to win battles, but as a believer where should our comfort come from.
“we boast in the name of the Lord, Our God”
-(v.3) “and do good” You will see that it does not say “be good”
Tell me the difference from be good and do good?
-(v.3) “Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness”
a. Dwell in the land
b.
Encourage others to Trust the Lord and do good
-(v.4) “Delight yourself in the Lord”
Delight-make soft, pliable, or spend in enjoyment
in(preposition)-your delight Must be directed towards an object
-We are to find our satisfaction in him.
He is our joy, he is friend, he is our strong tower, he is our vacation, he is our peace.
-This does not mean there will not be times in our relationship that we struggle, or have some times when we don’t feel his presence.
-(v.4) “And He will give you the desires of your heart”
-
“And” This and connects the previous three commands
Trust
Dwell and Cultivate Faithfulness
Delight
And what will he do?
-He will give you the desires of your heart
a.
This is not a promise to grant you all your wishes as a reward for doing the previous three things
b.
This is the promise to grant you a deeper more intimate relationship with the self revalator God.
-Analogy-A woman will give you more of herself and reveal more about the deepest issues of her heart, when she begins to trust you and see certain things about you.
-God in this text is promising that As you draw closer to me I will put my desire in your heart and give you more specifics as to what I want you to do.
-Jesus explicated this even more plainly in John
Why does he call them friend?
-Because slave master don’t reveal their plans to slaves.
-Jesus says I reveal my specific plan to you and it is because of (v.14) “you do what I command”
-(v.5)
Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in him, and He will do it.....Tell me what you think about this text in relationship to (v.1)?
This is a promise that those who trust in the Lord will never ultimately be put to shame
What is his promise in (v.6)?
-Vindication
-Lets look how this manifest in the NT
