The Cross was a symbol of forgiveness
And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do.
And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Where would any of us find ourselves in this life of issues if there was not the mechanism of forgiveness.
Marriages, relationships, debts, negotiations, length of employment....etc.
Had not God implanted this act into the Theo-Man relationship, we as a species would not doubt would have become nonexistent.
It is clearly evident that to one that the main works of Calvary was forgiveness.
States “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Generally forgiveness is a godly response of benevolence toward a transgressor’s request for mercy.
The transgressor after being found out or exposed, now reaches forth to have their error expunged and the condition of the tarnished relationship restored to the previous status.
SETTING A COMPUTER TO A RESTORE POINT:
True forgiveness is that you now treat me as if I had never committed the offense in the first place.
Yet the model is that the forgiveness is given after the request is made for it.
Peter asks Jesus what was the limit for forgives in a day in Matthew 18th chapter.
Peter asks was seven enough and Jesus reply was seventy times seven.
However Calvary’s version was very unique.
In the fact that not only had God prepared Christ as a sacrificial lamb before the foundation of the world, but also God had forgave man for his sins prior to man having to ask for it.
Note in verse 34 the crowd does not ask for forgiveness for the deed done to Jesus but rather our saviour asks himself for them.
THEY KNOW NOT WHAT THEY DO.........
They did not know.
YET in his pentecostal sermon, PETER revealed to the multitude what they had done.
Peter proclaimed; that same Jesus whom you crucified has been made both Lord and Christ by God the father.
The hearers of the sermon where pricked in their hearts.
And is some way asked for forgiveness for they said unto Peter “What shall we do?”
PETER’S REPLY.....................
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off.
even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
