Introduction. We often see our failures but seldom do we try to find the real reason for them—we always come with an explanation, but is this the reason? What do we do about it?
1. When homes fail, each places the blame on the other—divorce is the result …
2. What about juvenile delinquency—What is the cause—What are we doing about it?…
3. Business fails, national economy staggers, politics is blamed …
4. Crops fail—insects, drouth, etc.…
5. When we fail to get rain, there is conversation and complaining about it—some have employed “rain-makers” …
6. When our churches fail to meet the expectations in results, we start looking for a new pastor …
SOME THINGS WE MUST REMEMBER FROM THE SCRIPTURES:

Let us rethink the real reason for our failures, and what we should do about it …
THE FAILURE—the problem before them …
An afflicted boy had been brought to the disciples and they could not heal him—WHY??
1. The father expected the wrong person to heal his son …
(a) The disciples—verse 16 …
(b) It is God, not his ordained, who has miraculous power …
2. There was doubt and lack of faith—Mark 9:23, 24 …
3. Perverseness—they had turned away from the truth of God … Perversion of Scripture …
THE ANSWER OF THE LORD
JESUS IS THE ANSWER
1. Unbelief …
2. Lack of faith …
3. Lack of prayer …
4. Lack of fasting …
(a) This means much more than penitence …
(b) It means being more interested in the will of God than in our personal welfare …
Conclusion. We have failed in many categories. Let us go back to Calvary, find the solution, and make a new start.
