Should Christians be worried? Who is in charge? Is God in charge?

Intro

The problem in the church is we tend to place our faith in things other than Jesus.
What we are witnessing is a shift in power. God’s Kingdom has come and now those who think they are in charge are no longer in charge.
The international Church of Cannabis in Denver CO
Elevationism
What we are witnessing is God’s Kingdom, now being ruled by Christ, has come to earth and the signs done are to show this power
They ask Peter and John - By what power?
Sacrament is getting high and finding your true inner self
A religion that mimics Christianity
Guest speakers, musicians and a sacrament
This is what happens when people become their own authority and seek to rule their own lives

Drama

The audience are rulers and elders (5,8)
What we are witnessing is a shift in power. God’s Kingdom has come and now those who think they are in charge are no longer in charge.
What we are witnessing is God’s Kingdom, now being ruled by Christ, has come to earth and the signs done are to show this power
God’s Kingdom has arrived -
Mark 1:12–15 ESV
The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him. Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
Mark 1:12–14 ESV
The Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. And he was in the wilderness forty days, being tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the angels were ministering to him. Now after John was arrested, Jesus came into Galilee, proclaiming the gospel of God,
They ask Peter and John - By what power?
They are looking to accuse them as they did Jesus - demonic power
Actually the opposite, Jesus has authority over evil forces
Matthew 12:22–32 ESV
Then a demon-oppressed man who was blind and mute was brought to him, and he healed him, so that the man spoke and saw. And all the people were amazed, and said, “Can this be the Son of David?” But when the Pharisees heard it, they said, “It is only by Beelzebul, the prince of demons, that this man casts out demons.” Knowing their thoughts, he said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and no city or house divided against itself will stand. And if Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? And if I cast out demons by Beelzebul, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. But if it is by the Spirit of God that I cast out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. Or how can someone enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? Then indeed he may plunder his house. Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters. Therefore I tell you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but the blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven. And whoever speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but whoever speaks against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven, either in this age or in the age to come.
What is the point of the HS empowering the Apostles?
The power is evident in a few ways:

Doctrine

by the actions of the HS
The HS uses men’s actions to point others to Christ
The Apostels healed this man to show the power of God in the physical realm
The HS main job is to point men to Christ
Many of us believe he is here to help us:
John 14:26 ESV
But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
App: one of the problems in the church today is we are taught to look within ourselves for help. Yet, the reality is we should be looking up.
by the words of the HS
HS uses men’s words to point to Christ
as a witness to all - rulers and elders of Israel
Political aspect to point to the reign of Christ
The apostles words are a witness to Christ’s work
A real historical Jesus
crucified and resurrected
The power that raised Jesus also raised this man
Overcame the penalty of sin - death
App: Can the world see your speech as a witness to Christ. His work and his power? Or, are you showing people someone who is trying to get through by looking inward?

Doxology

By what power?
The power is the reigning Jesus - the King
Do you believe that Jesus is fully King?
Prisoner who stated that everyone is seeking to be King
(10b-11)
The one who fulfilled Scripture
The one who is the center of God’s Kingdom - His Church - cornerstone
the one who provides salvation
There is nothing on this earth with such power

Conclusion

This power is a glimpse of the victory won by Christ - A glimpse into the future with the power Jesus has
Now and not yet and unrealized eschatology
He reigns, this is His world
Nothing can prevail over you or the church - Jesus is King and Lord
Nothing can overcome His rule and His Kingdom
New budget just passed by the congress is a travesty. It really changed my perspective of the President. While I look at both sides clamor for power I see that is exactly what s happening.
Both parties want to be King. They want power and control.
Palm Sunday -
This is what we celebrate - The power of the King, Jesus, who reigns now and forever
