Introduction

Text
Luke 24:1–8 NKJV
Now on the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they, and certain other women with them, came to the tomb bringing the spices which they had prepared. But they found the stone rolled away from the tomb. Then they went in and did not find the body of the Lord Jesus. And it happened, as they were greatly perplexed about this, that behold, two men stood by them in shining garments. Then, as they were afraid and bowed their faces to the earth, they said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen! Remember how He spoke to you when He was still in Galilee, saying, ‘The Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.’ ” And they remembered His words.
The Main Issue
there is a conspiracy to discredit the story of the gospel that Jesus was raised from the dead.
those who say there is no resurrection
those who say the resurrection is past
Christians is indirectly contributing to the spread of this demonic conspiracy
when “Christians” do not live a differently from the world
Jesus faced the Sadducees who claimed there is no resurrection
Paul faced 2 erroneous teachers in his time:
those who said there is no resurrection
those who believe resurrection is past
Important questions regarding the resurrection
did Jesus actually rise from the dead?
what is the place of the story of resurrection in the Christian faith?
how can we help contribute to the reality of the resurrection?

Main Points

The Necessity of Christ’s Resurrection

1 Corinthians 15:12–14 NKJV
Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen. And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.
1 Corinthians 15:12–13 NKJV
Now if Christ is preached that He has been raised from the dead, how do some among you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ is not risen.
1 Corinthians 15.12-17

Christ’s resurrection proves that is a “resurrection”

the fact that Jesus is risen from the dead means there is a resurrection.
1 Corinthians 15:14–16 NKJV
And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty. Yes, and we are found false witnesses of God, because we have testified of God that He raised up Christ, whom He did not raise up—if in fact the dead do not rise. For if the dead do not rise, then Christ is not risen.
1 Corinthians 15.14-

Christ’s resurrection is the basis, the foundation, the reason of our faith in God

The very reason we preach the gospel is because Jesus is risen. His resurrection is the meat, the creme de la creme of the gospel!
His resurrection is the meat, the creme de la creme of the gospel!
His resurrection gives value to our faith in God.
1 Corinthians 15:17–19 NKJV
And if Christ is not risen, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins! Then also those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable.
1 Corinthians 15.117-19
to the living - their faith is not in vain
to the dead in Christ - their hope of resurrection is not vain
His resurrection puts hope beyond this life!
1 Peter 1:21 NKJV
who through Him believe in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.

Christ’s resurrection destroys the power of sin and death

Hebrews 2:14–15 NKJV
Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
His death breaks the devil’s power of death
His resurrection releases those who were subject to bondage all their lifetime

Christ’s resurrection is the birth of the sons of God

1 Peter 1:22–23 NKJV
Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever,
How do we know the Word of God lives and Abides forever?
1 Peter 1:3 NKJV
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
the Word (that became flesh) died and rose again!
New birth is only possible because Christ was raised from the dead! His resurrection is the way to our new birth experience.
His resurrection is the way to our new birth experience.

The Proof of Christ’s Resurrection

Direct Evidence of His Resurrection

The Empty Tomb
Mark 16:3–6 NKJV
And they said among themselves, “Who will roll away the stone from the door of the tomb for us?” But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away—for it was very large. And entering the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a long white robe sitting on the right side; and they were alarmed. But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.
Matthew 28:1–6 NKJV
Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb. And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat on it. His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow. And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men. But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified. He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
Matthew 28.
the stone was rolled away (by an angel) so that the disciples will know that Christ is risen!
Matthew 28.

the order of His post-resurrection appearances
Harmony of the Gospels Direct Evidence of the Resurrection

1) Mary Magdalene (Jn 20:11–18); 2) Mary Magdalene and the other Mary (Mt 28:1–10); 3) Peter (1 Co 15:5; see Jn 20:3–9); 4) two disciples going to Emmaus (Lk 24:13–35); 5) 11 apostles (Lk 24:36–49; Jn 20:19–23); 6) 11 apostles (Jn 20:24–31); 7) seven apostles (Jn 21); 8) all the apostles (Mt 28:16–20; Mk 16:14–18); 9) 500 disciples (1 Co 15:6); 10) James the brother of Jesus (1 Co 15:7); 11) all the apostles at His ascension (Ac 1:3–8); 12) Paul after His ascension (1 Co 15:8; Ac 9:1–9).

Harmony of the Gospels Direct Evidence of the Resurrection

The sum total of this evidence places the event beyond all reasonable doubt. There are literally no other ways one could prove that He had risen from the dead in the same physical body in which He died.

Indirect Evidence of His Resurrection

the boldness and confidence of those who saw Him
they were willing to die confessing Christ’s resurrection!
they were consistent in their testimony
the conversion of Saul of Tarsus
Saul turned from an enemy to a true defender of Christ!
the unlikely conversion of many Jewish priests
Acts 6.7
Acts 6:7 NKJV
Then the word of God spread, and the number of the disciples multiplied greatly in Jerusalem, and a great many of the priests were obedient to the faith.
the unusual conversion of many devout, tradition-ridden Jews
The Transformation of Those who Saw Him

The Reality of Christ’s Resurrection

Even without the testimony of the eyewitnesses, the resurrection of Jesus Christ cannot be refuted because it is based on the truth of God.
Mark 12:26–27 NKJV
But concerning the dead, that they rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the burning bush passage, how God spoke to him, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead, but the God of the living. You are therefore greatly mistaken.”
Mark 22

God is not the God of the dead, but of the living!

God declared “I am...”
God emphasized a “continuing relationship with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob!
Acts 2.2
Acts 2:23–24 NKJV
Him, being delivered by the determined purpose and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by lawless hands, have crucified, and put to death; whom God raised up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.

Death could not hold Jesus in the grave!

Satan had Him killed, believing he was just like any other man.
Death has no place for Someone like Jesus - the Word, the Life, the Light, the Power of Creation, the Holy Son of God!
Jesus - the Word, the Life, the Light, the Power of Creation, the Holy Son of God!
Death has power only to a sinner - the sinful man!
Death has no power over Someone like Jesus - the Word, the Life, the Light, the Power of Creation, the Holy Son of God!
Acts 2:24 NASB95
“But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.
Acts 2:24 NLT
But God released him from the horrors of death and raised him back to life, for death could not keep him in its grip.
Acts 2:24 NCV
God raised Jesus from the dead and set him free from the pain of death, because death could not hold him.
Death has no choice but to LET HIM GO!
But when He arose, the power of death is destroyed!

The Holy Spirit is the resurrection of Power!

1 Peter 1.18
1 Peter 3:18 NKJV
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit,
1
1 Corinthians 6:14 NKJV
And God both raised up the Lord and will also raise us up by His power.
The “power” of God that raised Jesus’ body from the grave is the Holy Spirit - the same Holy Spirit that is in you!
Romans 8:11 NKJV
But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.
The Holy Spirit is the REALITY of resurrection in you today!
It is in us today because Jesus rose from the dead!
It is in us today to raise us up from worldly, carnal living to holy, godly, and victorious living!

Conclusion

What if people will not believe that Jesus lives today?
Nothing can change the truth that Jesus rose from the dead 2000 years ago and lives forever.
What will happen if you believe it!
you will be saved!
Romans 10.
Romans 10:9 NKJV
that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
you will see the power of God manifested in your life!
Ephesians 1:19–20 NCV
And you will know that God’s power is very great for us who believe. That power is the same as the great strength God used to raise Christ from the dead and put him at his right side in the heavenly world.
Ephesians 1.19-20
Death will lose its grip over your life!
