For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
In this passage the Apostle Paul contrasts the various earthly elements that would snatch away God’s love from us if it were possible.
He says:
Neither Death nor Life
Nor angels nor principalities nor powers
Nor things present nor things future
Neither height nor depth
Nor any created thing
In essence what he’s saying is that the power of God is greater than anything in the universe, and rightly so, since it’s His power that brought everything into existence!
In essence what he’s saying is that the power of God is greater than anything in the universe, and rightly so, since it’s His power that brought everything into existence!
And the elements themselves simply do not possess any intrinsic ability to thwart the most powerful divine force which is Love!
And further, that that love of God is found only in Jesus Christ!
And that His power is manifested to us in love!
And further, that that love of God is found only in Jesus Christ!
There are some facts that we will just have to accept this morning, for time prohibits us from doing a complete examination of them.
Some of those facts are:
Jesus was virgin born, being human and divine in one person.
He is the second person in the triune Godhead, co-creator of the universe, and equal in power and excellency, with differing roles.
He, as the sinless lamb of God, willingly took upon Himself our sin and nailed them to His cross, dying as the only acceptable payment for sin, was buried, and to the amazement of everyone rose three days later, ascended to the right hand of the Father 40 days later, and ever lives to make intercession for us.
He as the author of Life, invites all who will trust in Him to enter into this eternal life which He gives freely.
Now, this is the crux of the matter, because What the past three days has been about, is the power of the love of Christ in...
His death
His burial
His resurrection
But maybe you’re asking yourself, so, what does it really matter?
What does it really matter?
Well, everyone wants to be loved, you know!
And It does provide needed comfort to know that God loves us! Not to mention that the Bible says that “God is love”
And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.
I want you to ask yourself,
Now I’m asking you to search your heart and ask yourself, “have I experienced God’s love in my life?
“have I experienced God’s love in my life?
“have I experienced God’s love in my life?
Our minds have been so messed with from the different philosophies out there, that we are naturally sceptical when the subject of God comes up.
But regardless of what some believe and teach, the Bible speaks to the heart and mind through the Holy Spirit of God.
And when the Word of God speaks to the heart through the Spirit, skeptics believe, the spiritually blind see, and people experience that love of God which is only found in Jesus Christ.
I pray that your heart is opened to Him today, I really do!
So the first thing I want to tell you is that:
I. We come into this world condemned and sinful.
I. We come into this world condemned and sinful.
This is surely not what we want to hear, but many times the truth is difficult to deal with.
What should we do, lie to you and leave out the truth because we don’t want to make you feel uncomfortable?
The Apostle Paul inspired by God, tells us the truth!
But regardless of what some believe and teach, the Bible speaks to the heart and mind through the Spirit, freeing people from false religion and touching them with the truth.
As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one.”
As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;
Romans 3:10
You see, not anyone.
Regardless of who they are, whatever status they may have, whether the pope, Gandhi, Mother Theresa, whoever!
No one is intrinsically righteous!
II. Sin has indebted us and requires a payment.
II. Sin has indebted us and requires a payment.
Sin = opposition to the Word of God, or anything contrary to the nature of God.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
That’s right, there is no human remedy for sin.
We can’t be good enough to wipe it out or eradicate it from our lives.
We can’t overcome it by being good.
All we know is that God has given His commandments and we (every Man, woman, and child) has been disobedient to them. and so, is condemned by their own sin.
And if we imagine that we are without sin, God has something to say about that:
If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us.
III. God wants to help and has established a perfect plan.
III. God wants to help and has established a perfect plan.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
His perfect plan required a perfect sacrifice!
Every sacrifice of the Israelites in the Old Testament was required to be perfect without a single blemish on it.
Why?
Because they represented the perfection and sinlessness of the Lord Jesus!
This is why the John the Baptist seeing Jesus coming to him at the Jordan River says, “Behold the Lamb of God, which takes a way the sin of the world”
The Apostle Paul further reveals God’s plan as He says in...
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
And so we come to see that the perfect plan of God, required a perfect sacrifice, and that that sacrifice must be free from a human intercession!
Ephesians 2:8
IV. Jesus is the living way.
IV. Jesus is the living way.
IV. Jesus is the living way.
IV. Jesus is the living way.
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
It’s strange that the world tells us that we are too exclusive in our faith.
That we need to embrace other beliefs and philosophies.
But we didn’t make it exclusive, God did!
And as far as other philosophies, He says,
And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,
Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ. For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily;
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
Our text that I read to you at the beginning says -
Phil. 2
nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:
“… love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Is it even possible that this love can be realized in a dead Savior?
Or, is it rather, that the strength of that love is in a living Savior?
Here is where Christianity is separated from all religions of the world -
Here is where Christianity is separated from all religions of the world -
We have a living Savior!
That’s what this day is all about!
He is risen!!
And He rose to give us life!
That we can have eternal life in Him, and peace with God!
Have you found peace and love in the risen Savior?
Being saved!
Born again!
