I think it is right to refresh your memory

2 Pet 1:3-13 His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. 4 Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires. 5 For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; 6 and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; 7 and to godliness, brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness, love. 8 For if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.
9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins. 10 Therefore, my brothers, be all the more eager to make your calling and election sure. For if you do these things, you will never fall, 11 and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. 12 So I will always remind you of these things, even though you know them and are firmly established in the truth you now have. 13 I think it is right to refresh your memory as long as I live in the tent of this body, (NIV)
John 14:26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. (NIV)
v His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness
o Everything that we need has been given us.
o What? Everything that we need. Does God know what we need? (He knows before we ask him)
§ Does that mean we can have everything that we want too? Maybe!
§ Why don’t I have it then? First we must have all that “we need” and then we will be able to ask for “what we want” (1Jn 3:21-22)
v Through our knowledge of him
o Through our personal firsthand knowledge of HIM!
Phil 2:1-5
1 If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, 2 then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. 3 Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. 4 Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: (NIV)
Knowledge = gnosis knowledge, science.
Knowledge = epignosis recognition, i.e. (by implication) full discernment, acknowledgement
Knowing = ginosko to know absolutely, allow, be aware (of), feel, (have) know (-ledge), perceived, be resolved, can speak, be sure, understand.
v How many of you know that airplanes exist? How many of you know that airplanes fly and that they are the safest form of transportation? (more than bicycles, cars, etc..)
o I know of and understand how planes fly
o I fly on planes
o I am a pilot and have flown a plane
v President Havel?
Knowledge is something everyone can have, but understanding has to be sought after.
True understanding is not received until the intent or goal of the giver is attained
1 Cor 8:1-3 Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge (gnosis). Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up. 2 The man who thinks he knows (ginosko) something does not yet know (ginosko) as he ought to know (ginosko). 3 But the man who loves God is (given ginosko) known by God. (NIV)
o There is a path to Know (ginosko) him!
v Make every effort to add to Faith is the beginning and Love is the end. The Godly sandwich.
o Faith, goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, Love.
I Jn 3:16-24
16 This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. 17 If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? 18 Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. 19 This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence 20 whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we obey his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 Those who obey his commands live in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us. (NIV)
o If we come to the place of obedience to Christ and Love one another we will KNOW HIM!

*John 17:3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent. (NIV)
v if you possess these qualities in increasing measure, they will keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ
2 Pet.1:9 But if anyone does not have them, he is nearsighted and blind, and has forgotten that he has been cleansed from his past sins.
I Jn 2:10-11
10 Whoever loves his brother lives in the light, and there is nothing in him to make him stumble.
11 But whoever hates his brother is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness; he does not know where he is going, because the darkness has blinded him. (NIV)
v if you do these things, you will never fall
Eternal Life starts out by knowing (Ginosko) God!
