Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James came to anoint His body

Mark 16:1 NASB95

When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, bought spices, so that they might come and anoint Him.

1st century Jewish burial customs and the climate required that Jesus’ body be anointed with perfumes and herbs to help with the smell

The women came expecting to find a body, to convince the soldiers to move the stone, and to do their best to honor Jesus’ body

Observation #2 - Guards and Guardians

Women were witnesses

The Stone was moved

The Soldiers were neutralized

The Angel was present

Jesus was NOT!

Takeaway #1 - Man may be powerless but God is limitless

The Disciples couldn’t keep Him alive

The Romans couldn’t keep Him dead

Satan couldn’t hold Him back

The women were in a place where there was no life

The plan of God for our lives is a forward plan not a backward looking, full of death plan

Look at the message of the angel in verse 7

Go!

Tell!

He is going ahead of you!

Just as He told you!
