I’ve Fallen, But Its Time To Get Up!
Growing up in church, Easter Sunday was a special day.
It was special because it meant that even the poorest of people got new clothes.
It was time of Easter speeches and dying the most unique eggs.
It was also a Sunday when you knew you would see people you haven’t seen in a while, They would come because it was one of the Big-MEC Sundays that everyone attended (Mother’s Day, Easter, Christmas).
It also sticks out in my mind because I knew what the message was going to be about because it was the SAME one every year.
It was so the SAME Sunday where some of the SAME people would shout on the SAME song…the preacher would creshendo around the SAME point in the message, people would pass out the SAME type of eggs and we would eat the SAME marshmellow Peeps.
Of course the SAME post-church stuff was in order: stand in line at the SAME restaurant, hear family talk about the SAME folks in church, followed up by the SAME exhaustion from a long day, full stomach, and staying up on Saturday night trying to remember my Easter speech.
As much as there was a lot of sameness from year to year, the resurrection of Christ signaled that things would be drastically different for those who believed.

No longer do you and I have to be tormented by the things that we are trying to change...
Its like Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz, “since Christ got up, you’ve always had the ability to free yourself from the old you.. EXPOUND

· She ate cold oatmeal because it cost money to heat it.
· When her son's leg became infected, Hattie wouldn't get it treated until she could find a clinic that wouldn't charge her.
By then, her son's leg had to be amputated.
Hattie died arguing over the value of drinking skim milk.
She had money to meet her every need, but her life bore no resemblance of it.
During the Great Depression, a man by the name of Mr. Ira Yates was like many other ranchers and farmers…he had a lot of land, and a lot of debt.
Mr. Yates wasn’t able to make enough on his ranching operation to pay the principal and interest on the mortgage, so he was in danger of losing his ranch.
With little money for clothes or food, his family (like many others) had to live on a government subsidy.
Day after day, as he grazed his sheep over those rolling West Texas hills, he was no doubt greatly troubled about how he would pay his bills.
Then a seismographic crew from an oil company came into the area and told him there might be oil on his land.
They asked permission to drill a wildcat well, and he signed a lease contract.
At 1,115 feet they struck a huge oil reserve.
The first well came in at 80,000 barrels a day.
Many subsequent wells were more than twice as large.
In fact, 30 years after the discovery, a government test of one of the wells showed it still had the potential flow of 125,000 barrels of oil a day.
The day he purchased the land he had received the oil and mineral rights.
Yet, he’d been living on relief.
He was a multimillionaire living in poverty.
Today as we celebrate/recognize the resurrection of Jesus Christ, many are unaware…living in poverty thought they are millionaires!
So what is it the information we need to know?
VOLUNTARY SUBSTITUTION
John said its because he voluntarily laid down his life for us.
“By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers.”
( ESV)
Ü We know that the wages of sin is death but if that is the case, it seems questionable that the Christ who was born sinless should die as if he sinned.
Ü John said its because he voluntarily laid down his life for us.
(APPLICATION)
There is that word again....”ought”.
We see that in when Jesus washes his disciples’ feet.
EXPOUND
Paul says to us let this mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus “Phillipians 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.”

If you have ever have talked with a jaded spouse/couple dealing with infidelity or adultery, the constant theme that surfaces is that there seems to be “no amount of good that can satisfy or cover up the hurt.”
Because of this feeling, the offending spouse routinely feels that there will never be a deed that can satisfy the hurt or reverse the wrong.

JUSTIFICATION = ATONEMENT
JUSTIFICATION describes what happens when a JUDGE makes a legal determination that the prisoner is not liavle to any penalty demanded by law and should be treated as if he had never broken it!
If we are justified by faith in Christ, what prevents us from living victorious lives?
What prevents us from praying with confidence such that our heavenly father hears us?
What stops us from claiming victory over the situation
