THE DAWNING OF A NEW DAY
Introduction- What does
THEME- THE DAWNING OF A NEW DAY
The catastrophic failures
Peter
The Thief
I WONDER HOW MANY OF YOU NEED THE DAWN OF A NEW DAY TO WASH OVER YOUR SOUL?
YOU NEED THE MORNING STAR TO ARISE IN YOUR HEARTS, BECAUSE THE NIGHT OF THE SOUL HAS LINGERED TOO LONG.
When we experience prolonged nights of the soul it is easy to lose perspective, Add to that sin, failure, shame, addiction, anger, words that have been spoken that cut the heart of those that you love or words that have cut at you.
Well no wonder why there is so many people living in depression, without hope, and sinking.
If you need the morning sun to wash
This morning I want to approach Easter a little differently.
I am not going to focus on Jesus but on two other men, one nameless and the other named Peter.
Ok let me restate my purpose, my message is always Jesus and Him crucified, but the two other men that i am going to focus on is how they found hope, grace and salvation in Christ when they did not deserve it.
I would be willing to bet there are some people in here, that the reason you do not come to God is because you don’t think that he loves you, but I want to tell you that you are wrong.
You are like well that may be true but He can never forgive me.
Let me tell you again you would be wrong.
You say well I have lived to much of my life not really concerned about Him or what He thought, I have never cared about living for God and there is no way that he would recieve me now.
Again you are wrong.
Why do you feel that way?
Well because in each of us God has put a sense of justice inside of us.
He has placed His law on our heart and we know right from wrong, and it is from that sense of justice that we make our conclusion Either God doesn want anything to do with you, Or God can’t forgive you, or God will reject you because you understand the choices you have made.
So yeah according to the law, you get what you deserve.
Let me lovingly tell you why you are wrong, You are wrong not because you do not understand justice, you are wrong because you do not understand the Love of God.
In fact His justice must be held up.
He does have a law, and the violation of that law is death, Spiritual death, that led to Physical death and for many will lead to an eternal death.
But it was His love that caused Him to send His son, to die on a cross, who was innocent of any wrong doing, but willingly surrendered His
life to save ours.
It was love that kept him on the cross.
it was love that willingly took every lash of the Roman soldiers
Today we are going to look at two different men, One a hard working country boy who was a rough man.
Peter a commercial fisherman.
A no nonsense type of guy that would tell you how it was.
A big man a strong man, but a pretty rough character.
In fact at the garden of Gethsemane when Jesus was betrayed into the hands of the Romans and carried off to be crucified, Peter took a sword and chopped off the ear of one of the guards that were trying to arrest Jesus.
Its safe to say that he was aiming for his throat.
The other man nameless, a criminal, a thief..... Let me say this I just hate thieves, don’t you?
I mean there is nonthing worse, then coming home one day after work and finding your back glass busted, and your house violated by God knows who?
And your stuff stolen.
And its not even the stuff, its the invasion by some worthless person coming into your home, your house never quite feels the same after that? if there was ever a person that was not worth forgiving it would be a thief.
But as we will see God doesn’t feel quite the same way
A Dawning of a new day
First lets begin with Peter.
If there was ever a man that should not be forgiven it was Peter.
Not because He was like a thief or murderer.
On the contrary Peter was a hard working man?
He was a commercial fisherman, worked hard for everything he had.
No Peter should have never been forgiven because he should have known better.
Don’t get me wrong Peter understood his sinfulness
In fact when Peter begins to walk with Jesus.
Jesus performs a miracle that brings Peter to his knees.
They had been out all night long fishing and caught nothing, and after they had cleaned their nets and were about to go home and get in bed, Jesus tells him at the worst possible time of day to fish with nets, go out

Jesus had been there when Lazarus was resurrected from the dead after being dead for 4 days.
Peter didn’t deserve forgiveness because He was a thief or child molester.
Peter didn’t deserve forgiveness because if there was ever a man that knew Jesus was the true Son of God.
It was Peter, And this leader, this mans man, this courageous man denies Jesus three times.... Sometimes the hardest person to get to God is the one that recieved grace, he recieved forgiveness.
Man without a doubt there was a time when your soul was in darkness, and Jesus came, lifted you out of that mess.
And for a time you walked with Him but then fell away.
When that happens you need to understand there is an enemy of your soul, and the devil will get in there and remind of all the reasons you aren’t worth forgiving.
He will accuse you with a vicious tone.
But as we are going to see God wasn’t finished with Peter and neither is He threw with you and me
Now right before they go into the Garden of Gethsemane.
Jesus tells Peter this
But Peter denies the Lord be
Peter was a courageous
Peter was a courageous

Peter is feeling strong.
Right before this discussion they are arguing about who was the greatest, and Jesus looks right at the leader and says Simon....Simon Satan has demanded to have you, that He might sift you as wheat, But I have prayed for you that your faith not fail...
Let me stop right here and say that should be a comfort for us today, that Jesus prays for us.
He intercedes on our behalf.
That is part of His ministry to us, He not only saves us but He defends us.
And Peter said Lord I am ready to go to prison or even die.
Was he lying?
No he was not lying.....

Peter stepped up and struck the guard, but jesus stopped it and healed the man.
They take jesus.... What is going through the heart and mind of Peter.
Everything is going wrong in Peters world.
