James 4: 1 What is causing the quarrels and fights among you? Isn’t it the whole army of evil desires at war within you? 2 You want what you don’t have, so you scheme and kill to get it. You are jealous for what others have, and you can’t possess it, so you fight and quarrel to take it away from them. And yet the reason you don’t have what you want is that you don’t ask God for it. 3 And even when you do ask, you don’t get it because your whole motive is wrong—you want only what will give you pleasure.

Many of us wish sometimes that we could go back in time and fix things. Maybe having learned some new things, we would like to have the chance to right some things we did wrong.

  • If I
    • First we have to realize it’s not all about us.
      • Our way of thinking has changed over the years. We all have been affected by it. We have all been deceived into thinking “ME FIRST”.
          • If I could have… the thing that destroys all relationships, but especially marriages is this thought. “ME FIRST”
          • The secret of a Happy marriage, yes a happy life is to consistently love someone else before yourself
      • “If I”
        • One thing about this statement is true “I” have the most important role and position in my relationships.
          • Instead of If I could “have” = do not have = take, hurt etc…
            • What about If I could “give” = have = receive, joy…
            • The man is the head... wait a minute women, before you throw things.  He is the head because it is HIS responsibility to put you first… Now you like me again, right?
            • Husbands love your wives… wives honor (receive what he is giving you) your Husbands.
  • could do it
    • The are so many things that we can’t do and have without God
      • One of them is a truly happy marriage. “What my marriage is OK! Is that all you want? OK?
        • God created this relationship and he knows how we can make it a good one.
        • Paul shares in Romans 7 in the Bible about our inability to do the good things that we would like to do. The fact is Marriage is as spiritual as it is emotional, physical.
          • For that reason even with all the training, preparations, marriage books, or good examples that we have seen. We still need God in this relationship to make it work.
          • The Bible says “What God has joined together….let no man break apart.”
  • All over again!
    • Sometimes we mean by this “If I could remove all the bad things that have happened, the difficulties that I experienced, receive a second chance.
      • First of all you don’t want to experience some things twice. Once was enough!
      • Secondly, if we are not different, we will do it EXACTLY like we did it before.
      • Third, it will never happen. You can only go forward!

    • Good news! We can begin again
      • The good news for this couple as they begin and for you here today, if things go wrong, you can begin again.
      • God is a God of second chances, a God of New Beginnings. You cannot go back and fix it, but you can go forward.

Today this couple has the chance to look forward and say “with God’s help I will do it right the first time“

Pray!
