Question: What about the reports of these things happening in the middle East and people being saved as a result. In Iran there are reports if Jesus appearing to people in dreams and beckoning them to follow Him.

· Answer: Dreams are not the same as miraculous gifts, and whether dreams fit neatly in the miraculous category is also difficult to determine. For instance, Nabeel Quereshi's dreams described in Seeking Alah, Finding Jesus. Some cessationists would not have a problem believing that God is doing extraordinary things, especially in places of persecution or little access to Scripture, although God is God and can do as He pleases anywhere.

1. The reason we so much said about lounges in scripture, particularly form Paul is that the sign gifts were still going on because the cannon had not been completed.

5. 1. The sign gifts were in operation in Acts, Galatians, 1 & 2 Thessalonians, 1 & 2 Corinthians and Romans.
During this time Period Paul wrote 1 Cor 18:8-12 which tells us that the Lord had revealed to Him that the gifts would cease someday.

Question? When did the sign gifts cease?
Answer, at the end of the book of Acts.
1. The pattern could not be clearear, and the contrast sharper between the earlier letters and the later letters, between the time when all the sign gfts were operating, and the time when all sign gifts had ceased . There is no record in scripture of any sign gifts opperating in any of the letters that paul wrote after the end of the acts period. , and it is clear that the gift of healing had ceased since paul could no longer even heal his closest co-workers. after the close of Acts.

Question: Why did they cease
Question: Why did they cease
1 Corinthians 13:8–12 CSB
8 Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. 9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put aside childish things. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I will know fully, as I am fully known.
This verse refers to the completion of the cannon, let’s look at why...
The sign gifts during the Acts period were only “in Part”, they were incomplete, they did not communicate the full knowledge that the Lord had to reveal. The Lord revealed to Paul that “that which is perfect” was coming. in English as in Greek this is a neuter pronoun-” That thing which is perfect” Paul was not writing about the coming of “he who is perfect” but the coming of a “thing” which is perfect. When it came then the sign gifts which were only “in part” would cease.

It is described like the difference between being a child and becoming a grown man, or between seeing someone’s face reflected in a way ancient mirror and seeing the person face to face.

Ephesians 3:2 CSB
2 you have heard, haven’t you, about the administration of God’s grace that he gave to me for you?
It was only in part during the Acts period, but with the close of the book of Acts the Lord completed the revelation of the Mystery
Eph 3:3
Ephesians 3:3 ESV
3 how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly.
Ephesians 4:9 CSB
9 But what does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower parts of the earth?
Colossians 1:26–27 CSB
26 the mystery hidden for ages and generations but now revealed to his saints. 27 God wanted to make known among the Gentiles the glorious wealth of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
That which is perfect was finally revealed in all its fullness to the Apostle Paul and at that moment, those things which were only “in Part passed away from God’s program

So, what about those who say they can speak in tongues

There are several possible explanations for this experience or even a spiritual experience but clearly from the word of God it is not the spirit’s gift of tongues. So many who have studied this teaching ask what now there is an easy answer to this.

For many this is a great relief. They’ve been taught that a person must speak in tongues to prove that he is really saved, or that he really has the Holy Spirit dwelling within. So, they’ve “learned” to speak in tongues, but when they see from Scripture that this gift is not in operation from the Lord today, they can at last cease their effort to prove their salvation and start to walk by faith and not by sight.

Matthew 7:22–23 ESV
22 On that day many will say to me, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and cast out demons in your name, and do many mighty works in your name?’ 23 And then will I declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from me, you workers of lawlessness.’
There is not any appearance of this gift that follows the prescribed methodology in Scripture.
As we have seen, Paul was able to heal many sick people all through the Book of Acts. He healed every sick person on the Island of Malta in . And he wrote to the Corinthians about the gift of healing that was operating in their church during the Acts period
1 Corinthians 12:9 CSB
9 to another, faith by the same Spirit, to another, gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
)
. But we have also seen that with the close of the Book of Acts, the gift of healing ceased to operate. Paul could no longer heal anyone—not Epaphroditus in , not Timothy in
1 Timothy 5:23 CSB
23 Don’t continue drinking only water, but use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses.
not Trophimus in
not Trophimus in
2 Timothy 4:20 CSB
20 Erastus has remained at Corinth; I left Trophimus sick at Miletus.
The gift of healing had ceased to operate, along with the other sign gifts. However we must note that God still does divinely heal.
Philippians 2:25–27 CSB
25 But I considered it necessary to send you Epaphroditus—my brother, coworker, and fellow soldier, as well as your messenger and minister to my need—26 since he has been longing for all of you and was distressed because you heard that he was sick. 27 Indeed, he was so sick that he nearly died. However, God had mercy on him, and not only on him but also on me, so that I would not have sorrow upon sorrow.
So, if healing still existed why did Paul not heal him? but God did miraculously do so.
